Does the 1150 GS Adv tank fit straight on to an 1100GS as well? Can the same pump/internals be used?

What sort of range should I be getting with an 1100GS? 2-up with luggage I was struggling to get 180miles. But ran it dry, tipped it over to the right to drain the last bit from the left side of the tank (thanks for the tip StrayPuss) , rode a bit more then filled up. Still only took 20.5 litres - I thought the tank was bigger (metal version)?

Straight swap. You can use the internals from the smaller tank but I think the low fuel light will come on way too early as the extra fuel is held low in the larger tank.

I used my old internals when I fitted the larger tank but bent the float arm a little to delay the low fuel coming on - more of a gentle radius than a bend though. Guessed it right, light comes on with 4.5 -5 litres remaining.

Tank range varies. mainly dependent on riding style, anywhere from 220 to 350 miles. Best I got out of the smaller tank, with drilled filler neck, was 252 & running on fumes.

Also drill out the filler neck, regardless of the tank, you'll squeeze in another two litres. First time I filled up my Adventure tank, got 32 litres in. Mind you, with todays fuel prices, that's not funny..........

where do you drill the neck? picture not very clear here.

ps. my worst range, in france, 2 up, loaded, is 121 miles 'til the light comes on.
back in UK i got 180 out of the next tankful :D

See that hole in the pic above? That's where :thumb
Before you take it apart to drill it go and buy a new rubber seal/gasket that fits between the filler assembly & tank, the old one may well be "pickled" by petrol and when it dries it it won't fit

Just cut a piece out, so it'll fit in the recess, saves all the buggering about trying to attach overflow and breather pipes - :thumb

You don't have to remove the inner filler to drill it, it reaches away from the tank with the pipes still attached.

So, undo 6 bolts securing filler cap, pull towards you, drill hole, clean up metal burrs, refit (with new seal)?

That's the entire procedure?

was there a queue of caravans & tractors behind you? :D

Most times I fill up I put in around 18/19 litres, and I always get around 225 between stops, 60k miles 94' 1100. So I'm not doing bad then? Or just not revving the bollocks off of it?!
