GS-LC V/S RT-LC

I own both.

The GS is more "immediate". The lighter crank is really noticeable. It gets up and goes in Dynamic mode, that's for sure (relatively...I also own a S1000R...now THAT goes...:D).

The RT feels more refined and smoother. I'm 5 10, and I find it very comfortable.

I'm about 90 kg fully booted and spurred, and I find the GS suspension great, no problem.

The RT is even better...very smooth and relaxed, yet poised in the twisties.

What always makes me smile about the RT is the handling....she handles so well for a "touring" bike. So light on her feet!

The quickshifter works well, the screen provides very good coverage and I like the radio.

Bitches?

The glove box and the front guard are too small. The latter is very easily fixed with a machineartmoto extender.

Some gratuitous pics...

Lovely backdrop, it's a bit green for Aus, you sure it's not Yorkshire! Lol.

So you have an LC-GS and LC-RT and a S1000R! Wow that's impressive, you must have been a good boy in your previous life, well done fella!

Your saying that it is the heavy crank in the RT that gives it the smoothness that seems to run through the whole of the bike?

I took a RT LC out today, did around 80 miles round the Cotswolds.
very impressed on the whole. it didn't feel much heavier than my GS LC. Much easier to get on the main stand.
Will the old top box fit??
The 2 things that I was very disappointed with were ,mirrors and not being able to lock the satnav on.

I will be interested to see the RS but pissed off that the main stand is an extra! And the two colour choices are both extra £££,!!!
Greedy bastards.

The old top box will fit, I disagree about mirrors I find them better than old model. I totally agree about non locking sat nav its ridiculous! Im sure I read that the rs has a locking sat nav holder.

They should make that locking SatNav a retro fit option on the RT, I'd get it done if it were available at sensible money...

They shouldn't. They should offer it for free, as standard. Bastards.:rob

Troppo,

I had the feeling that with equal riders around a twisty tarmac circuit, the RT might just pip the GS to the post.

As an owner of both bikes which would you say is the quicker machine on twisty tarmac?

Yes, in an ideal world, they bloody well should given it is an obvious oversight on their part.

But that will never happen, hence the "sensible money" caveat, to avoid my having to bugger about or risk losing the satnav at quick pit stops.

I cant believe they havent listened to customer feedback and made it lockable ? they have gone to the trouble of central locking on panniers.
Anyone had any issues with the central locking?

Yes, just returned from a 600 km overnighter - the RT is smoother than the GS, for sure.

The GS (lighter), although the big girl can be hustled along...

As I said in the post above, I'm just back from a trip to Cooktown (google it) - there are some big sweepers on that road...I may or may not have been running through them at enhanced speeds... ;)

The big girl holds a line really well.

The GS is better for the tight stuff - obviously, but the RT is the better tourer.

so good you posted twice.....

BTW the Wunderlich touring screen fixes the wind protection issues.

I'm interested in that screen. I have the BMW "comfort" screen. Whilst it provides very good coverage, and the air is very smooth (no buffeting), it is noisy.

How is your screen, noise wise, at say 70 MPH?

Ta.

Only one downside, the screen... riding with the screen down was quite a bit noisier than my GS in fact when I phoned my partner from the bike she could hear the wind noise during the call, when I ring from my GS she doesn't even know if I'm on the bike or not, its fixable by raising the screen then its very quiet, but I found that riding with the screen up sent a cold draft around the back of my neck.

Picking my RT1200RT LE up today. Also had the same cold neck issue on the one I rented for a week. Wondering whether or not the bigger screen will cure it.

Anybody tried?
