Hi
My first entry on this forum.
I rode the RT for some years at my work as an instructor.
I ride the GS privatly.
Best ride is the GS. no question about it.:)

BTW. THIS AVATAR IS MY OWN. THIS IS ME ON MY OWN BIKE.
I use this Avatar on several GS oriented forums like the Advriders and the dutch GS forum.
Its not nice to use my Avatar without asking me first.
I am just disappointed  , not angree :)

Now . There, above, is the difference between owning a GS and an RT. A somewhat confused forgetfull old gent who cant even remember to put his avater on and then gives all a telling off for what they might do to it.
You will meet a completely different breed of human on an ORDINARY bmw.

It may be the same bike under the skin, but the clothing attracts a different type of person. What sort of reaction would there be if "Watton The Shirt "walked into a RT club meeting

choices choices....

I've got an 1100RT and a 100GS, two really great bikes but I easily prefer riding the GS for some reason.

Everybody notices the linked brakes on the 1150RT. They're not to everybody's taste (or mine) BMW have just announced a limited edition 1150RT (Black) on which the rear brake pedal does not operate the front brake in addition to the rear. Quite why they chose to release this variation so late in the model life I don't know. If I had the money, I'd buy one tomorrow.

I had real comfort issues with my 1150GS when I first purchased it earlier this year. So much so that I began to question the wisdom of owning it. My local dealer (Balderstons) had a few RT's that I considered as alternatives. I did ride an 1150RT which was very good. It had a very revvy and responsive engine, handled well but was too much money, and sold to the guy who test rode it right after me. An 1100RT which I could afford was gutless and sluggish. Another 1150RT, with a few miles on the clock, handled better but wasn't as good as the first. All three offered better lower body protection than the GS but I would have needed to replace the screen on all of them.

So after a good think I decided to persevere with my GS. I've recently discovered the secret, for me at least, to seating comfort - a pair of Nippy Normans bar risers. An MRA Vario screen has sorted the buffetting so I'm now very happy with the GS.

Having riden both the GS wins hands down
If weather protection is your thing the RT wins any other criteria the GS is tops
Its almost as if BMW got a big syringe and sucked all the fun out of the RT and injected it into the GS

Which GS is down to your taste try them all and you choose.

52 :D

Met an old riding mate of mine saturday he'd arranged a rideout I was doing.

He was riding an rt1100 for a few years and loved it to bits, so when the 1150 came out and he had some money he chopped in his faultless 1100 for an 1150. He is now riding an FJR1300 ABS and will never buy another RT again or possibly BMW coz of all the reliability problems he had.

Be warned
