Obviously there is a physical difference between the two but I am interested in owners who have changed in that direction and was it positives or regrets and why.

All subjective answers but interested in all. Thanks in advance.

I've just gone in the opposite direction GSA to TE, after a very short ownership, for me the GSA was just too bulky, yes the bigger tank may be useful on limited occasions, but that's it.

I went from a std height 2014 TE to a factory lowered 2018 GSA.
Wonderful bit of kit.
I only use for road use, like the pannier system and the range.
Easy 300-320 miles and not need to look out / detour for petrol stations.
Once rolling would not notice any weight difference.

Agree re the alloy top loading panniers, I really don’t like the vario’s, but the GS is easily fitted with the GSA panniers. Is there really much need or desire to travel 300+ miles without stopping?

For me the 30L tank gives me flexibility. Range anxiety is a thing of the past......nearly. I did a trip from Vienna to Gibraltar in January, being able to crack on in cold weather and get to the sun was a blessing, without having to stop too often and all that palava (I also have an RDL which makes 300 miles breeze).....but that said, each to their own.

Bottom line the GS Adventure weighs and extra 8% or so more that the GS. Would you notice that?

Great question that Jon raised, answers would be really useful - I have a 2017 GS1200 TE and now thinking about a 1250 GS / 1250GSA.....

Unless two up imho I wouldn’t bother., GS is less bulky and more fun handling wise having had both. I bought the gsa for the better luggage and pillion space and what I considered better looks, but if those weren’t important Gs every time, more engaging and fun. It’s true the varios are shit, too small.

I owned both at the same time. The GSA had it's use... Long trips (my GF lived 240 miles away). Other than that, GS all day every day. Prettier (no hideous scaffolding), GS has a playful nature. GSA a bit of a barge. Unless I really needed the big tank, I would have GS every time. If anything I'll go smaller/lighter if I ever swap the GS. Maybe even the Guzzi v100 next...

I’ve had several GSs and a couple of lowered GSAs

Personally, I like the GSA and certainly the bigger tank is useful for longer trips.

Also I feel more comfortable on a lowered GSA than a regular GS

I'm having a dilemma as to which way to go as a replacement for my Yamaha Super Ten, I don't need a 30L tank but I like the looks of the GSA, I have a full set of Touratech luggage that I could put racks on the GS (I guess I could sell the GSA racks and do the same). I'd probably add the upper and lower engine bars so that'll be another few kilos added. I guess I'll have to test ride them both.

Hey yo-yo, are you getting rid of your S10? A bigger tank is fine, but my arse won’t do 300 miles at a stretch!

I'm wavering! I'm getting more and more drawn to trying the GS/GSA but I did 220 miles while ROSPA training today and the S10 does everything I need, its just a heart over head thing.

It`s because of the `bulk`that i now own a GSA - i love the sheer rediculous proportions of it all.
I like being `in` a bike and the cartoon tank size provides that feeling of being `in`.
As for the `barge-like qualities` - that`s a plus too in my book - i hate flighty/skittish feeling bikes and would much rather have something that feels planted, secure and predictable, and the GSA has more than enough agility to hussle - you`ve always got to wonder why a manufacturer fits a steering damper as standard.
It`s a `tool`, not an ornament so looks-wise it`s really not an issue, in fact the uglier the better, it`s a motorcycle not an ornament.

Just to clarify, I did not mean to imply not stopping per se, rather if I do stop on longer runs it is not at a petrol station.

The only time I’d want the GSA tank is for high speed motorway cruising, above 120kmh GSs drink petrol, but I try to avoid too much motorway

I prefer the standard GS for looks and (comparative) nimbleness, mine has touratech top loaders and a 2 lid Givi top box, sorted :thumb2

Get a Russell Day Long Seat, it will then with consummate ease ;-)

Hello all the GSA has a different steering head angle 65.1 degrees and the GS is 64.3 degrees, I think the A rides better and you don’t have to fill the a up its there if you need it

Completely agree with you! I have made tentative enquiries about changing my S10 and when I ride it, I wonder if I must be mad to even think about changing it! :blast

Genuinely curious, what causes the difference? According the realoem site, the frame/telelever/forks are the same for both?

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/pa...J93_&mg=46&sg=51&diagId=46_2061&q=46519444973

Can't think what else would change the steering angle - what am I missing?

Your question prompted me to google about.
Came across this. Although doesn't answer your specific question, that I too would like to know an answer to.
