ordered a clutch kit from motor works today also ordered a crank shaft seal. (behined the clutch)But was told there is two seals, sounded like the second seal fitted over the first seal, does that sound about right . forgot to mention its a 1999
cheers all:nenau

If you don't have the seal insert tools measure their depth before removing.

Inbetween the two seals is the oil breather channel. Don't get it wrong and block the breather hole with a seal :D.

The other sensible option is to leave them alone if they aren't leaking.

the seals are not leaking just thought i'd change them as the gear box was off .Do you think the seals will have plenty of life left in them with the age of the bike ?

I changed a clutch a while back on a 1997 r850r with 140k miles on, i didn't change the seals and the bike was fine for plenty more miles, similar situation on a k1100lt,, if not leaking i would leave well alone, bugger if you put it all back together and haven't got the clearences right on the seals plus it'l ruin the clutch if they start leaking.

Very well summed up - i've seen perfectly good non leaking seals removed and replaced (because they were working in that area ) with new seals which then leak. :D
