I was having lunch with a saleman from our BMW dealership a couple of days ago and he was telling me that there has been a real change in the type of people who buy the GS12 from the customers he dealt with for the 1150GS.

Most are inexperienced riders and are not interested in riding off the pavement. They want accessories like carbon fibre bits, heated seats, GPS's and satellite radios, aluminum panniers and "that suit & helmet like those guys on tv had". Their bikes are always spotless when they come in for service. Far more doctors, accountants, lawyers than before. It's good for him though, because they have lots money to spend and will keep spending.

I was thinking about this and I quess that there might be something to this. My wife, who rides a GS12, had to agree to it once I asked her about it. I have also noticed it now that I think about it. The GS12 riders I've met on rides have all the RTW gear but are mostly staying at resorts and haven't ridden far from their homes.

I was wondering if anyone has noticed this trend in the UK as well?

Were's the BMW dealership in Sparwood, next to the Moose Mountain Grill?

I am surprised that a town of 5,000 people has one.

Groundhog Day!!!

Can someone add into the Registration rules for this site a paragraph mentioning the fact that anybody who rides a 1200GS is not a 'real' GS'er but nothing more than a feeble, weak willed impersonator who is easily led all because of a couple of actors! It should also be stated that as being the aforementioned person Ihave to put up with being constantly reminded of my failings by those superior beings...1100/1150 GSers at least once a fortnight!. :mcgun DO 1100 GSers think 1150 GS'ers are :tosser ? If yes why doesn't that get mentioned,... oh yes there's new meat!

DO 1100/1150 gsers have such low self esteem that they find they have to do down anybody who bought a GSprior to LWR. What if a newbie went out and bought a 2nd hand 1100/1150....that would confuse the sh1t out of you! :eek

Things move on BM built a bloody good bike in the 12. I bought one, get over it! :mooney

4Q

4Q fits nicely in my map pouch, on the back of my lovely new jacket for all to see.
Thats because i dont give a b locks want anyone thinks, a bike is bike.
Once we were all mad arsed young bucks riding anything that came our way :thumb hmm? now we have some money to spend why not enjoy it,not all of us can ride of into the sunset, we have to keep the economy going.
But i love the rideouts even with Yellow 1200's !!!!!Stand back flack coming my

No, but 1200 owners obviously have such low self-esteem that they bite every time someone dangles a line....

I bought the GS so I no longer had to give a toss.

Most 1100 and 1150 owners know what I mean, if you know what I mean, like. :dabone

Hmm. I'm just about to take delivery of my first 1200GS..ooh err..big bike or what. D'you reckon I'll be able to cope?

After 12920 cumulative cc's of trade-in over 27 years....I Do consider myself a novice because I have only managed to keep one of them for 15000 miles.

I'll have to keep trying...it's just that when the ash tray gets full....and a new model appears...... :peach:

I think that you'll find Northampton to Princetown is quite far enough on a standard GS12, as I don't have one of them proper Adventure models.
I suppose If I had an 1150 Adv I would have gone via John O' Groats.

:D :bounce1 :D

fish, fish, hook.

a bike is a bike there are good and bad and the same goes for the riders. personally I dont judge people by their bike or clothes. I judge them by how much beer they can drink without falling down. :dabone

Who really gives a shit whether it's a 1200 or an 1150, just bloody ride the things.

I've never read such crap, even when I was a power ranger we never spoke about which is the better bike Gixxer 6, 750, thou etc, we just rode the things and enjoyed what we had!

That's what biking is all about; diversity, individuality and good fun. And as long as you enjoy it and get home in one piece who cares :dabone

Jesus........!

From what I gather from my dealer a fair % of new GS riders are far from inexperienced, they tend to be ex super sports or sports tourer guys who want to keep their licences and still have some fun. I have seen a number of people in the Rallye suites but having tried on the jacket and found it very comfortable I can see the attraction. If the LWR attracts new riders with cash great, more riders less chance the safety loonies will get bike restrictions fostered on us. If some of them want to pose more than ride so what, it’s a free country. The GS is a very versatile bike, there is no requirement that you ride a 1000 miles a day and live off the land, it is good for short trips and running around as it is for going around the world, so now that the ‘cat is out of the bag’ it will attract a broad range of riders who will use it as they see fit.

Hear hear... agree!

Twaddle...

What a load of twaddle...

You're not a real GSer if you don't ride a 650. 1100. 1150. 1200... delete as applicable!

Get a life boys, just ride what you've got and enjoy. There's a real world out there!

It's too icy outside our house so riding's out of the question for now.

Now then, which side should I take? I know........if you ride a GS you're not entitled to a little light hearted banter in case you offend someone who has a different opinion (and a GS) ;)

But I agree that the first post of this thread was a load of b......S, apart from the bits that were right :D
