Most are inexperienced riders and are not interested in riding off the pavement. They want accessories like carbon fibre bits, heated seats, GPS's and satellite radios, aluminum panniers and "that suit & helmet like those guys on tv had". Their bikes are always spotless when they come in for service. Far more doctors, accountants, lawyers than before. It's good for him though, because they have lots money to spend and will keep spending.
I was thinking about this and I quess that there might be something to this. My wife, who rides a GS12, had to agree to it once I asked her about it. I have also noticed it now that I think about it. The GS12 riders I've met on rides have all the RTW gear but are mostly staying at resorts and haven't ridden far from their homes.
I was wondering if anyone has noticed this trend in the UK as well?

DO 1100 GSers think 1150 GS'ers are
? If yes why doesn't that get mentioned,... oh yes there's new meat!

Hmm. I'm just about to take delivery of my first 1200GS..ooh err..big bike or what. D'you reckon I'll be able to cope?
After 12920 cumulative cc's of trade-in over 27 years....I Do consider myself a novice because I have only managed to keep one of them for 15000 miles.
I'll have to keep trying...it's just that when the ash tray gets full....and a new model appears......each:

Piggers said:I think that you'll find Northampton to Princetown is quite far enough on a standard GS12, as I don't have one of them proper Adventure models.
I suppose If I had an 1150 Adv I would have gone via John O' Groats.

I've never read such crap, even when I was a power ranger we never spoke about which is the better bike Gixxer 6, 750, thou etc, we just rode the things and enjoyed what we had!
That's what biking is all about; diversity, individuality and good fun. And as long as you enjoy it and get home in one piece who cares![]()

monochrome_boy said:From what I gather from my dealer a fair % of new GS riders are far from inexperienced, they tend to be ex super sports or sports tourer guys who want to keep their licences and still have some fun. I have seen a number of people in the Rallye suites but having tried on the jacket and found it very comfortable I can see the attraction. If the LWR attracts new riders with cash great, more riders less chance the safety loonies will get bike restrictions fostered on us. If some of them want to pose more than ride so what, it’s a free country. The GS is a very versatile bike, there is no requirement that you ride a 1000 miles a day and live off the land, it is good for short trips and running around as it is for going around the world, so now that the ‘cat is out of the bag’ it will attract a broad range of riders who will use it as they see fit.
