GS12 Riders Different From GS1150 Riders?

Inexperienced? Let’s see. I started riding in 1976. I took a break and began riding again in 1993. Since 1993 I have ridden almost every day.

New to motorcycling? Well, the R1200GS is my 5th BMW. (I traded a K1200RS for it.) My Monster S4R is my 4th Ducati. (I’ve also owned a Honda and two Kawasakis.)

Do I take the R1200GS “off road”? Not much. I check out dirt roads in the area and I look for fire roads when I go to the mountains. 90 to 95% of my riding is on the pavement but that’s not a bad thing.

Do I get it dirty? Not often, but I don’t mind riding in the rain.

Yes, I’ve got a Savannah II suite and a Aria DX. The Savannah II suite “works”. It’s the best riding gear that I have . . . . and I have a “Stich” too. I bought an Aria DX because I like the visor. (But I won’t use it tomorrow because it is supposed to be below freezing and the XD’s long snoot lets in too much air.)

I’ve talked to a few R1200GS owners in the area and most of them have similar profiles. Some have ridden more. Some have ridden less. But they’re all relatively experienced riders who wanted something different, fast and comfortable for a long ride.

Go figure. :)

What a load of twaddle...

You're not a real GSer if you don't ride a 650. 1100. 1150. 1200... delete as applicable!

Get a life boys, just ride what you've got and enjoy. There's a real world out there!

Well said that man!

Has anyone seen the new timetable layout on the Severn Valley railway? :argue :reynolds :phazar

Hang 'em High

WHOA!

Before you hang this cowboy from that tree, remember that I said my wife has a GS12. I was working out a deal with my salesman to trade my GS1150 and my KTM950 on a new GS1200 Adventure. We did make a deal so now I will have 2 GS12's in my garage next year. I just won't be buying the lastest "see me suit" or adding alot of gadgets to my bike.

If my post pissed some of you off, that was not my intension, but some of the responses indicate that there might be some truth to what the salesman said.

Pam and I are shipping our bikes to Europe for a 2 month ride this coming summer, so hopefully I will meet some of you on the road. We will be the ones that aren't dressed like those two guys from the tv.

Slim :)

Nowt wrong...

It's too icy outside our house so riding's out of the question for now.

Now then, which side should I take? I know........if you ride a GS you're not entitled to a little light hearted banter in case you offend someone who has a different opinion (and a GS) ;)

Nowt wrong with light hearted banter... good for the soul. Trouble is some people believe it!

Anyway... too icy! Thick frost here too, but getting my 'bike out for an hour. In fact off to Germany on Sunday for the week on it, Eifel Mountains and Hefe Weiss calling... me and three buddies are gonna ride our 'bikes and have some light hearted fun.

Hoping to get out tomorrow but living at the bottom of the hill means no sunshine at this time of year. The frost and ice stays where it is so I'm off out to throw some salt around now!

Enjoy your trip :thumb

When i was thinking of buying a GS, i was told to try the 1200 first. it was so much lighter, so much more... and many more ..'so muches'
this convinced me NOT to try one as my budget wount allow, and it may spoil the 1150 'experience'
I bought my adventure and am happy with it, its just so different from the rest , now i enjoy a ride out, i dont feel as if i have to give everyone on two wheels 'a go' now.
Its heavy, and slow, (a bit like me then) but i love it
Its a bit like an ugly girl with a fantastic figure ...........

Cheers...

I live at the top of a hill so getting out's not a problem... bit o' slip slidin' and Bobs yer uncle. Getting back in can be a problem though

 on the ferry Sunday evening... I'll drink to your health.

Cheers

Can't be ****** to read all of this but I own a GS12 the bike gets beaten to death, goes on and off road and no dont use spray on MUD mines the genunie stuff! Think currently mines is the highest mileage 12 at my local dealers and to be honest there's plenty of 1100 & 1150 that don't reach 1200 miles a year... :D now I am going to continue

No, but 1200 owners obviously have such low self-esteem that they bite every time someone dangles a line....
Maybe it's time the 'holier than thou' types stopped dangling the line then!

Hmmmm, I think I see the problem here!

The "issue" is that you lot don't want to be perceived as LWR fanatics! :D

You lot are so damn hung up about LWR taking away your elite play toy and the general public lumping you in with all the other fashion followers.

Does it really matter what you ride? As long as you have fun riding it, enough said.

For the record, No i don't own a GS, can't afford a shiny new 1200 and therefore want a half decent 1150.

cheers

1200 & 1100/50 riders

Obvious difference:

Temperature below -5 celcius:
1100/50 riders happy pottering around

1200 riders waiting for AA to kickstart crappy little 12v battery
here endeth the whinge

Marcus, get yourself an Optimate and stop whingeing mate, my 1200 starts first time, every time :thumb

ah yes, great bit of kit if you have a garage, not if you have a flat!

Solution 1: move.
Solution 2: Wunderlich heavy duty battery.

Vespa fits in the hallway, GS wont!

Off to the pub    :bounce1

I dont have battery charger hooked up to my bike and it starts first time every time :D
Maybe if you are having problems, you need the software updating or a new battery

Timolgra,

I checked Streetmap.co.uk for Cuckoo Land and I couldn't find it....
I guess it must be a very long way from Princetown, as you do have an Adventure model ... :D

Apologies for the late reply, but I do have important things to do as well as play on here...... :thumb

Cheers, Piggers
