GS1200 Adventure has arrived in UK

If you have a tank bag fitted, you don't need the cubby hole!

You know, I really hadn't thought of that.

Actually I had. It simply amused me to pose the the question and see what vaguely witty replies came back. I even tried one of my own, suggesting (in a tongue in cheek kinda way) that the fellow struggling with his iPhone 5 might being trying to insert it vertically.

Of course it won't work with a conventional fecking tankbag, not without taking it off to scrabble around for your five groats to pay the ferryman. Though no doubt some buyers will not work that out and proceed to moan that it's not fit for purpose.

In passing, the famous ferryman sounds remarkably like a hard edged 1200 GS Adventure riding Tosser:

There Chairon stands, who rules the dreary coast
A sordid god: down from his hairy chin
A length of beard descends, uncombed, unclean;
His eyes, like hollow furnaces on fire;
A girdle, foul with grease, binds his obscene attire.

I thought the LC GSA looked great, far better in the flesh than the pictures suggested.

The hand adjustable screen and the front power socket were nice touches, as was the cubbyhole.

No mention of an enduro gearbox but I totally reserve judgment until I have ridden one. (And no, I'm not buying one but that's because I don't want to spend the extra money)

I'm sure they will sell loads of them.

I agree.:thumb Like a lot of new bikes (and cars), they look much better in the flesh. That doesn't stop the armchair critics that have never seen one in person slagging it off.:blast We should have some way of keeping a record of all the people on here that say its "shite" and "hideous" that then go on to buy one.:D

Brilliant idea....anybody who doesn't love all things BMW and has the temerity to express their own view should be found and death with. We should search their houses for any other bike brochures, take them to a BMW show room pile them up outside and burn them.

To make sure we know who are in the tent and with us we should all wear the same clothes.....how about a shirt....black to stand out with an armband just to make sure.

From the man who brought us this....

Gottta say I agree. Matt bars would be much better....Bound to be an awesome bike but I can't gel with the looks...not growing on me but I am sure will look good in the flesh.

Which was rather what Nutty was saying.

Nope, it just doesn't do it for me. In fact, it seems to have become a parody of itself now, huge just to be huge.

It didn't strike me as that big; no bigger surely than the current GSA (and no I haven't pored over the specs; this is just impressions). The tank has certainly been designed to look substantial; it seemed to be deliberately taking its cues from the Paris Dakar 80G/S that was conveniently just across the aisle for comparison in the rather splendid BMW history section.

The Adventure version will appeal to many cos it looks well 'ard so it is OK for adventure poseurs in twat-suits with stickers all over their panniers, I get where they are coming from and good luck to them :D but as a day to day practical bike it is a step down compared to the basic GS - The extra weight, bigger tank, wire wheels, crash-bars, heavier panniers etc - knobbly tyres (it looks gay with normal tyres) restrict you to 80mph and it is very rare that one needs 300 mile range.

as a day to day practical bike

it is very rare that one needs 300 mile range.

Au contraire - it is that very thing that makes it a great day to day bike. The less I have to fill up when commuting the better especially on a dark sleet laden January morning.

Amazing opinion, especially as you haven't ridden one!

The TC Adventure wasn't as nice to ride as the standard GS for the sportier rider due to the longer travel/softly damped suspension and higher centre of gravity. However, I would appreciate the 300 mile tank range as it means only filling up once a day on tour (or every other weekend locally) - I've grown to appreciate it on my RT.

I think it looks great in white and though i can afford it I'm in two minds whether i want to sling that sort of money into a bike, once to cold harsh reality of £200 a month finance payments kick in and the novelty has worn off, id probably wish id waited a year or two and bought used. Crikey that sounds sensible!

Thank god they DIDNT put naff plastic bungs on those crash bar ends.

BMW R1200 MISS-Adventure

Like a kid wanting the sweetie shop to open I've eagerly awaited the arrival of the new GSA LC.
Pocket money has been saved and ready to be spent, subject to the usual "Give BMW a couple of years to sort the problems out that the customer beta testing finds"
But having seen the new toy in flesh all my expectations have been dashed- I'm really disappointed with how it's turned out.

It looks like the design team ran out of money as they worked backwards... bit like Ford did with the Scorpio in the late 80's.
Same poor switch gear that's been appearing recently, I've seen builders put up better scaffolding than the crash-bars, bad choice of colours, Flimsy screen.
For me it doesn't feel right or appear to have the same presence the previous model has.

So we'll see if it grows on me in the next 2 years if not the pocket money goes on either an Explorer XC or a KTM - But make your own mind up.... over £15k before farkles it has the potential to be an expensive mistake
