GS1200 Difference between years

I think I have buyer for mine lined up, and maybe found a nice one in my price range, but I am not sure what it is:
Early 2008 registration (57 Plate) Comfort pack and ABS, but is this an '08 or an '07 model and is there any way to tell???
It is well within my price range (Change left for Ohlins
) but has 17k on it, as I intend to do more miles on this than my typical 5k a year it could hit 40k in 4 years, is this an issue???
I am not sure what wears on BMW's, with Jap bikes I know the score, steering head bearings, caliper seals, suspension bushes and camchains.
What Ails the GS with mileage, do they get pricey to maintain or is it just ongoing TLC.
Obviously I have covered the FD and accept if I am unlucky that it may fail, but it would seem they can go at 5k or last 60k+ so not gonna worry about it (much)
Do you guys trust these bikes for a two week tour once they have 40k on them?

is there no way you could have your own ohlins modified, to suit the gs, the ends can be changed on the shock for different fitments.
you would have more to spend on a bike , also why budget for something that you don't really know needs changing ???, me i'd get the best / newest bike i could get and just ride it, you may be trying to solve problems that don't exist

The problem is I know it can be even better!
I would not do anything to start with, but as I would have some budget left I may be tempted to spend it nearer my next tour.
I would be saving about a grand for a bike just 6 months older than my target 2008/08 at £8,000, with an extra 5-8k on the clock.
The £1,000 can sit in my bank for a rainy day, or maybe an MCT visit in the summer, or for the dreaded FD rebuild.
The problem with new / nearly new bikes is depreciation, 17k is not really a high mileage (or shouldn't be) the bike looks really clean, assuming it is a 2008 model it may be a bargain.
The chap selling is not sure of bikes year, either that or pulling a fast one, I have made no bones about my bike being a 2007 model on a 2008 plate, but as there are big changes between the two I am concerned the guy got a bargain on a leftover and knows it.

What colour are the cylinder heads and lower forks, I think the 08 models were goldish colour heads instead of silvery grey and gold + black lower forks instead of silvery grey
Also I have 30k on my 08 and fully expect to still be doing extended distances at 40k

I have a holding deposit on one to check out tomorrow, oh yes, you lot thought I was here for a whinge and to wind up all the blinkered owners out there, well only partly.
Looking at a 2008 at Cotswold BMW tomorrow, just wanna be 100% sure it is a 2008 model, the last one turned out to be a 2007....
Anyway 6k on the clock, dealer is doing yearly / 6k service, years warranty and tax. It only has a comfort pack, but that is all I really wanted, some "winglets" (whatever that means - and he seemed excited because they were attached to the chassis) and engine bars - saving me buying some +the full luggage I need.
Fair price, but on the downside i gave my bike away for £5300 with £400 of extra's still attached, approx half of new cost today.
