GS1200 Engine Recall

Ghost Rider2 said:
Panzers mate had a new 'short' engine in his wifes bike because of an oil leak. I met them at Alston Cafe shortly after the first deliveries. If I remember right...the dealer stated the factory had nipped an oil seal whilst putting the engine together.

Still waiting for all the little niggles to get ironed out!

Georgia's Bike.. It was the balance shaft oil seal which appeared to have been damaged during assembly.
Seal replaced, not the engine.

I've seen one more of theese broken balance shaft seals. It happened within the first 10 km and I don't think it was damaged during assembly.

This problem was common on new cars in the 60'ties and the cause was that somebody forgot to grease the seal during assembly resulting in overheating and meltdown of the seal during the first 30 seconds of operation.

Spoke with my Dealer yesterday when I picked up my new 1200. No recalls other than Dealers fixing the fuel gauge problem.

I took a real leap of faith buying the 1200 after reading all the horror stories over on the GSpot on Adventure Riders forums. But after the ride home yesterday I am really impressed with the 1200. I also have faith that BMW will rectify the problems.

Been lurking here for a few months and have really enjoyed this forum.
