I don't have an answer for you but do you need heated grips in Malaga? Perhaps your hands are getting too sweaty. :)

The grips on my bike are the only bits i clean with wasing up liquid, just to make them sticky:nenau

There is a thread somewhere on the forum that describes (with pictures) how to remove the old rubbers without damaging the heating element and then replacing. But I can't find it. It was a few months ago. Search and you'll find it eventually. :thumb

Or another option, you could try covering them with a Grip-tek grip.

I used the GCM 4.25 fits bar sizes 1.25" to 1.45"

It makes your grips little larger in diameter, which is why I bought them. They do slow the time it takes for the grips to heat up but they still get just as warm.

these grips look good... 2 questions... 1) which size for R1200GS please? 2) Why are there 6 in a pack? do they wear out quickly?... Jon:)

Size for my '06 R12GS Adv., I used the GCM 4.25 fits bar sizes 1.25" to 1.45"

The original pair has been on for less than 1 year but I have put on about 14,000 miles they have been in rain/snow/dirt. They don't show any wear yet but I would guess they won't last as long as the original BMW grips

I like the extra diameter and they seem to reduce vibration a little. They do take longer to heat up but they get to the same temp.

Note on installing - soapy water, after the grips go on they may move a little but just turn on the grip heat to dry them out and they are stuck like glue.

Mine are also pretty well worn after 17,500miles - I'm a bit worried that the heating elements will soon start to show through the rubber. My dealer tells me that normally the whole thing, including the heating elements have to be replaced.

There is a thread (as others have already mentioned) about how to replace the rubber only, however I believe that this applies to the 1150 NOT the 1200 which has a different type of grip.

Has anyone changed just the rubbers on the 1200?
Where do you get the rubbers from?

I just went o the sports shop & got some grip tape & used it on the grips :thumb Looks good ,cost a couple of quid & easy to remove & no loss of heat

I think that this is worth a try - as it seems extravagant to replace the entire heated grips after so few miles.

I have never used grip tape, how is it held in place, ist it self-adhesive?

Very easy you start @ one end (its not sticky) & work your way down 50% overlap & you get some tape to seal the end mine has been on since new (2 years) & if you replace it ,as its not sticky it comes off no problem :thumb

Thanks - will try this out. Have to say that the Beemer grips wear very rapidly; almost completely worn out after 17,500 miles whereas my Ducati ones were still like new after more than 21,000 miles.
