GSA 1200 (2013) - Tyres

I currently have Tourance EXP's. I want to replace just the rear tyre with a standard Tourance but leave the EXP on the front as it still has plenty of tread left.

Is it okay to mix tyres in this way?

I've got a Maxcis SuperMax on the back with one of their Detours (sort of Tourance copy) on the front. It's fine. Though the back does show up the front's weaknesses.

Just done 2000 miles on my new front EXP & rear normal Tourance - all fine & no chicken strips on either tyre

I need a new rear standard Tourance, if you manage to get one post on here, not seen any for a while, unless you already have the tyre that is.

Not needed on those German roads, we all used all the full tyre width

Makes a change - even Humvee managed to spin his worn tyres out, he's worn the edges to match the middles now

Gazza: I have just asked my BMW dealer in Grimsby to fit one when I have it serviced in a couple of weeks. They didn't say they couldn't get one but did say that EXP's were difficult to get?

No problem just ordered a pair from busters, £165.50 delivered, nice price,

I've just had a new 'Normal' Tourance fitted to the rear of my 56 plate GS, interesting calling around the new local garages to me (Surrey).

Garage 1: My computer tells me there are no Tourances
Garage 2: I cannot find that tyre
Garage 3: Oh BMW, yeah we don't do them. They need 'special' tools.
Garage 4 (BLD Camberley): Yup, no problem. When do you want to book it in?

£75+vat for the tyre so £90.

Plus £25 for fitting. So £115 all in.

As above I did ring around, but loads of garages either had never heard of the tyre, or gave me a bullshit story about not wanting to touch BMW.

I was tempted by full road tyres, as I now just commute down the M3. That said never done any proper off roading...

But Tourance did want I want, great confidence wet or dry. Lasted 11k miles, could have sneaked more out of it, was told it would be an adviso on the MOT.

Also BLD do a great 'life time'MOT price, pay once for the life of the bike. (only £29!)

I've bought my last two sets of Tourance pairs from Busters/M&P online. First pair was £155 delivered, second was £159 delivered so I reckon your £165 for a pair is in line with price rises over time. I've only ever used the original Tourances on my GS's, thinking of spending a bit more and changing to Michelin PR4 Trails next and seeing what I've been missing. £20 fitting is also a very good price.

PR4's seem to be in fashion @ the moment; wonder if I should go against the grain and stick conti RA2 evo's on.......

Great tyre - got a pair on my RT, & a pair will go on my GSA when she next requires tyres.
