I was wondering if anyone had owt to say about Pidcocks BMW at Long Eaton Notts?

I bought my 2009 GSA from Williams BMW Manchester last Febuary and I have decided to have a ride down to Long Eaton tomorrow to PIDCOCKS BMW to have the latest recal work done. I woul dhave gone across the Pennines to Manchester cos its a nice bike ride, but not having a full face helmet see UVEX post? and being a winter weather wimp!:augie I have chose PIDCOCKS.

Cheers

As no one had nothing to say to me about Pidcocks at Long eaton, I went down for my 2009 1200GSA Recall check, I went there instead of Williams at Manchester
(who are great) as it was cold and a pal from Notts taged along for a wee ride out.

When I was given the bike back after Pidcocks had done the so called recall work, I attempted to start the bike but it would not start easy in their rear carparK. I had to twist open the throttle hold it there and then with my left hand lean across and press the starter button, keeping the revs on, it then started but was a little lumpy, at the very same time a triangle yellow warning light came on the dash. I assumed she was low on fuel, I rode down the road and filled her up with £32.00 worth of gas!

Then i rode home some 50 odd mile? which the bike was fine no probs at all. When i arrived home i had to stop to get through our gates and the bike cut out would not tick over (she was hot) i had to rev her and keep revs on again... I then washed the bike put her away.

Today seemed like nice day for a ride, I started the Goldwing as my dearest was coming for a ride with her heated jacket etc etc and there is heated seat heated grips heated foot throwers... on the wing! Then change of plan after phone call from one of the daughters wife not coming ! So I thought "thats it solo ride i will get the Beemer out got wragged up ready to go and "YES you Guessed it" Would not start unless i did the two hand shuffle again, it ran like a bag of spanners.....

So i thought i would just ring Pidcocks and make sure (well ask) just what had they done workwise on my bike.... They said they had only fitted two cable ties as a BMW safety check to the routing of the clutch cable? Had me checking throttle cables and pulleys then told me to call the BMW warrannty number the 777 111 number which i did, a very nice lady then sent out a chap after 3-4 hrs (glad i was not freezing sat at side of road?) The chap came out to my home and looked at the bike saying Mmmm not good not starting right and exchanged the fuel module? saying it already had the latest modified module installed? He then tried the bike still the same so re fitted the origional fuel moduel.

Then he left later this nice lady rang me again and informed me that a very very nice man with a truck will be at mine at 8.00AM to take the GSA to Pidcocks to sort it?

I cant help but think whats gone off?
Never a prob till took for recall ?

so I will have to see the outcome I am well interested to see what it was.

Any Idea's

don't know about clutch cable however mine is also to go back for the fitment of two cable ties which are apparently fitted to the forthcoming DOHC model

I thought it was hydraulic????

Me to but they did call it a clutch cable router?? Feck Knows! Just dont like it going wrong? Especialy when it was good b4 Hydraulic--Cable ?? Clutch do da?????

Big D:)

That seems a bit harsh - doesn't it?

You make it sound like it's our fault for not responding?

Al :)

No thats maybe how it sound sto you, or maybe my bad grammar but what i am meaning is no one had owt good bad or indifferent to say. So you pay your money and take a chance... Forums are for asking and telling:augie

Only just seen this thread, but Pidcocks have always done a good job for me :)

Hell of a coincidence but it could have been just that?? :augie

The problem is that gas bubbles forming in the clutch line are not able to rise to the surface as the routing of the line is incorrect. There is a small repositioning of the clutch line with the aid of 2 cable ties to allow the bubbles to reach the reservoir and not stay in the line.

Agreed, with Kawasaki at the old Derby branch on Osmaston Road, Honda at the Mapperley branch in Nottingham (before it moved to Long Eaton) and now with BMW at Long Eaton.

sounds like trottle cables are out...can get stuck by the air filter housing but cant see what BMW tech was doing down there....is the tie raps for trottle cables?maybe he said clutch by mistake...also sounds like fuel pump relay but unlikely is he put a new one in to check....wounder what would happen if they put the orginal pump relay back in

Just my tuppenceworth here..

I lifted the tank on my old R1100RT once, and had a similar running problem when I refitted everything - Lifting the tank pulled one of the throttle cables onto the shoulder of the adjuster putting the throttle body balance way out... same symptoms as you describe, but sorted quickly by re-seating the cables... it might be worth having a look at yours, I'm guessing (I'm an 800 owner ...) that your throttle bodies are more accessible than mine on the RT were...

Did it not occur to you to just wander back into the dealers at the time it wouldnt start, would have saved a shed load of hassle, just asking!

:blastBlimey why didn,t i think of that, course I thought of that but as my yellow fuel light was on flashing and i was with other riders waiting on me to go. I set off to the gas station. When it happened again after refueling "YES I should have hot footed it back to Pidcocks" But as the bike rode smooth and was fine until I turned the engine Off after some 50-60miles it was then that the same problem appeared.... just on start up!:augie

Yes In Hinesight is a wonderful thing I guess:confused:

A very good question :thumb2

But being short of gas, the OP was forced to ride off, thereby commencing this whole unhappy tale. It starts with appeals for bods to ride with him to Nottingham, which fall on deaf ears, but result in a rebuke. Ending, sadly, with no bike.

It's a salutary tale and one we should all take great heed of.
