Hi Everyone,

Just want to thank you all firstly for all the help and advice with choosing the gsa over the moon with my choice going for the lc,

Picked it up two weeks ago and done nearly 1,000 miles on it nearly 15k on the clock now,

So a bit of history on me firstly, coming of the back of quite a range of bikes although being 26, rd 350 lc's 500 lc's blade, gsx-r 750, track bikes, and a norton 650 ss haha

on to the gsa,

Where to start the sound the looks the handling the sublime but quirky engine..

ergonomics
First thoughts bit tricky to push around but soon get used to it only 11 stone and a bit so took a bit of getting used to 6'2 on my toes when pulling up tend to lean off the seat mx style when pulling up works a treat,

riding position very commanding compared to the blade can actually see where I am going,

suspension and electric bits
now onto the fun stuff, ride mines a TE spec with all the toys, by god is that suspension good, being a light rider it really does make a difference on the rough roads being able to bang it in soft, bit wallowy but comfortable, and in normal and with the throttle in dynamic when its time to get going by god does it handle well, Surprising my friends and my old man with the way it corners was brilliant, to the point they are all looking at gsa's now haha. especially when I got off after a 400 mile ride felt fresh as a daisy and they were really aching lol.

clocks are a bit of a pain to read on the speedo and there is a slight difference between the big speed on the nav and the clocks by about 4-5mph nav reading lower

Heated grips absolutely cook my hands so guessing these might have been swapped out at some point reading back on issues with them, really work well

screen wise mine has been fitted with the gsw one so get a shed load of wind hitting me, on the list of things to fix.

nav integration rocks watching my mates nearly crash messing with his nav when I can just do it off the bars is brilliant

brakes and traction control

amazes me how late you can actually brake into the corner always been a bit of a late braker from the track stuff but really do rock !

enigne wise

very very urgent just wants to go reminds me a lot of a cross between the norton and the rd 350 lc weirdly haha as there is a proper rush on the engine, very addictive once you get going,
shifting is smooth 90% of the time nicking it with the edge of my boot still using my dianese track boots seem to give nice smooth shifts well most of the time. odd iffy one but on the whole nice an butter like,

second opinion
Engineer who's doing our Heidelberg xl install top lad, has got a hex head, had a listen loved the sound of the standard can, let him ride it up our yard, thought it was very light to get of the stand, very impressed with the urgency in the engine and the overall response of the bike, looks like they have hid the weight well,

To sum up even with a few lil niggles (see bellow) the bike just blows me away being able to ride for so long in such comfort, with an urgent engine and sublime handling just rocks best bike I've owned out of the lot and I've owned a few jazzers, best of all not really missing anything from the sports bike's and the character is great. I know that is a well worn term but really does suit it, just bags and bags of fun, like a bouncy puppy that just wants to keep playing, but magically doesn't wear you out

issues,

noticed quite a bit of rattling noise like a consistent tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap sound when at idle and low revs shuts up once going,

surging, this is the thing I mainly want to try and improve dealer I got the bike off blamed it on the fly by wire but I'm not to sure was raining last night and noticed it did it at a few more rev points other than just the 3.5-4.5k range

speedo
needle seems to jump about a bit randomly is this a known fault with them?

things to do next

decide on some darn panniers haha so many choices to try and pick, leaning towards the bmw ones I think

screen of some sort,

Cheers everyone, and a massive shout out to Gaz and Chris at adventure bike warehouse, for putting up with me taking forever to choose gear haha excellent advice and over the moon with the new kit :)

Tom
sorry for the rubbish photo's haha mobile's suck going to take one of the proper cameras out when Ive got the luggage sorted

Glad you like it, I have the 2015 GSA and son't have the surging or the issue with the speedo that you mention.

Hi Tom, bikes looking good. Bmw panniers are good I would stick to those. My bike makes a tap tap tap at idle when hot. Slight tremor from the needle at high motorway speeds but not jumping about, that doesn't sound right. The navigator speed will be lower as it's working off satellite and therefore does not overestimate like an analogue speed tends to.

Enjoy!

Cheers mate :) its booked in at Williams, in a few weeks to investigate the few probs, also said there is a software update outstanding so that should sort it out hopefully for the surging all fingers crossed

just can't get enough of life on the gs thats for sure

That's quite normal ...... the Sat Nav speed should be more accurate than the speed showing on the speedometer

I was 11 stone once :D Nice looking bike enjoy it.:thumb2

:thumb2 Cant wait to get mine on 1st September, had a couple of GS's and an Adventure. Got a Triumph Explorer at the moment and its not a patch on the GS

Just enjoy ! i did just over 500 miles yesterday west sussex to lynton for breki and a hack round exmoor ! With two mates one on a 07 1200 adv other on an 1150 adv..Took it round some green lanes or thats what we said they were :-) got some good pics just cant sus how to get on here, im not much older than yourself tho maybe a little heavier! Best bike ive owned mines a yr old in september just over 8k did spain in feb and the nurburgring in may "my laps on you tube under ,bmw 1200 gs lc nurburgring Nordschleife (wet lap) 2015, worth a look if you get 5!! Ive got the full givi pack on mine the bmw stuff takes an age to get and is nothing special the tank bag is crap compared to the givj tank lock one ive got the 58L top box which at 11 stone you could probably sleep in, givi screen givi tinted hand guards, 37L & 47L panniers i had them wrapped from new to keep them good and look the part, running on pr4's as the anakee's are ok just loud and didnt last long, motors been good gearbox been fine electrics fine just the left switch gear replaced, i find it responds well to being ridden hard start pussying about and it acts odd, enjoy & welcome to the asylum !

Cheers rob

My 2014 GS does this surging at around 4000-4500 rpm, dealer says nothing can be done, would a remap sort this out?
Also my rev needle is jumping about on tick over!

I enjoyed your write up. My 25 year old son is still a bit sceptical of the GS, but I hope by next birthday he will have reached the age of reason too.

It'l be interesting to see what this software update does, Ill post a post update review up on the surging issue, also was told that some of the early lc's did have speedo's replaced may be that the previous owner lived with the fault,

top box I can sleep in now there is a plan that would be interesting for some of the camera gear I'm after lugging though Ill have a google at that, Cheers everyone my first go at writing a review

indeed Steve I do think 26 is the age of reason haha, my dad still flys round on his gsxr 750. think he is seeing the light though :)

Thanks mate I'm very impressed with the bull-it covec kakis with armour really comfortable on and off the bike just throw my dianese waterproof leggings in the tank bag :)just need some waterproof gloves, keep looking at tour x's poor bank account lol

Thanks mate over the moon with all the new gear and yeah looks great wearing them every day :) totally rock excellent advice of Gaz an chris at adventure bike warehouse

For me- having a GS for a few years, as the GSA was definitely heavier etc I wanted to keep this as light as poss. So I hardly ever fill it up fully and on the tours I do- ( 10K since November ) I just use a 30L roll bag on the rear rack. Boxes far too heavy, esp the metal ones. Unless you are travelling to mongolia there is no point.

Security? It takes a few seconds to remove the roll bag at the end of the day and I use a good bike lock to secure it- make sure there is nothing really of value in there too. Never had anything nicked as there is always one of us near the bikes anyway.

I`m 5`8 and find it fine at low speeds- moving about- its technique really - I can only put one foot down so if you plan for this thats fine.

They are a great bike- a proper " utility" bike and wheelie like a motha!!

Enjoyed your review. What reg is yours?

I am toying with the idea of changing from a Street III to a GS or GSA and can't really decide which one to go for.
Also whether to go for an air cooled older model or the more recent LC version.

I use my bike for commuting in and out of London but also go for ride outs on weekends with the odd trip to Europe.
Any advice from GSA commuters?

I definitely don't want to buy new but am looking for good quality at the right price.

Hi Caesi,

mines a 14 plater 15k on the clock now I've stuck a grand on it,

found it pretty ace on the commute - the surging issue aside, bit of a big girl for filtering but epic in some ways as cars certainly see you coming

I'd say test ride but make sure the lc has the latest software update applied meant to be quite a difference looking forward to mine being done next week
