I have now done 3500miles on my 2010 GSA. I have noticed a droning resonating noise coming from the area of the drive shaft when i'm doing about 45mph. Is this a sign of impending failure or is this normal. I haven't yet spoken to the deal but will do shortly.

A mate of mine has a 2010 GSA 30 yr Anv model. He reckons he too has a noise which turns out to be road noise. It's fitted with Conti tyres which he says is the cause of his problem.Another mate with the same model has no probs, his has Metzler tyres. Just a thought.......:nenau

I have a 2010 30th GS with Michelin Anakee. I have the same noise between 40 and 55 mph. My previous 2009 GS was the same, but worse. The 2010 demo bike I tried was very similar but quieter(2500 miles), I rode a GSA (1700 miles) no noise at all.
My 2008 GS did not have this noise. They have done something to beef up the FD I think.
I would love to try another rear wheel with differant tyres though just to prove either way.
Its worse without the cases, yes ??? they help to absorb the noise.:rob

Hi
my 2007 and my 2009 GSA 1200 did the same i have a 2010 now but can't say as i'm listening? That's maybe why the new ones have the exhaust valve i really like.....

Big D :)

Its nice to have a reply from Big Derek as he allways has a sensible constructive comment with NO SWEARING words, however spelt.
Sometimes this site is so boring because of all the wingers/whinners. I suppose the internet allows comments which would not normally be said face to face.
BMW produce great bikes.
Lets see how long before the doom decends on this thread.

2006 GS with Anakee and now Anakee II's and the same issue. Its done it since new. No worries in my book.

final drives are unreliable, but come on.. they can't be that bad.

I too (for whats worth - not much in this forum) believe you are hearing tyre noise. FD bearing noise of impeding failure you can only hear at very low speeds or just rolling the bike forwards and back with the engine off. Plus you shouldn't be having the FD going before 15-20k miles anyway, if at all.

Certain tyres on certain tarmac could produce a droning noise and/or certain resonating vibration. I would have thought spikeys are the worst, but perhaps Anarkees do it too...

When I got my 05 bike, the OE fitted Anarkees were so bad, that the noise was the last thing in my agenda. I retrofitted the bike with road BT021s and I ran it for 3 years with road tyres exclusively.
