GSA Alarm Fob

Right this a alarm milarke is annoying me now. When I get home from a ride I park up in my garage and set the steering lock, and then set the alarm by pressing button one, and get the relevant indicator flashes to confirm. A few hours later I try to deactivate the alarm by pressing button two, but nothing happens. I turn on the ignition and the alarm doesn't sound, so it appears the alarm was not actually armed at all. I guess I'm doing something wrong?

Looks like it's the same alarm as on my RT. If so the remote is disabled after 15 minutes in order to conserve power. Only way to disable after that time is ignition key.

Alarm not going off when you put key in doesn't mean it wasn't on. The alarm is deactivated by the key.

I personally think 15 minutes is way too short and find it really inconvenient.

Of course, it may be a different alarm in which case ignore all I said!

Alarms on bikes are the very work of Beelzebub.
Make it gone this very day.
Instead, invest in a decent lock and select parking spots with care.

Button 2 on mine turns off the alarm at any time as per these instructions.

Operation > Button 2 > press once>
Deactivate alarm function
Confirmation
Indicators flash 1x Alarm sounds 1x (if programmed)

Thanks, looks like you might be right. I haven't timed it but after a short while I discover button 2 does nothing. But when turning on the ignition I get the single indicator flash, as if the alarm has deactivated. So perhaps all is well and I just wasn't understanding how the system worked? Noting new there then

Why do the instructions inform you to use button 2 to disarm the alarm? Do BMW presume you will never park for more than 15 Mins? I can disarm my alarm before opening my luggage without switching on the ignition.

What power is it conserving ? The fob only uses it's battery when you use it & the alarm is using the bikes battery all the time whilst armed. The alarm shuts down after 7 days to conserve the bikes battery.

Apparently it shuts of the receiver in the alarm to conserve power. If you want details best ask BMW as I'm only quoting the manual rather than saying I agree with the implementation.

My alarm instructions specifically state the remote only works for 15 minutes. It's a royal pain in the arse if you ask me.

Perhaps the bods 2009 bike has had a new alarm fitted. My 2012 GSA alarm doesn't have this 15 min quirk.

Definitely different models of alarm in play. My 2013 RT definitely has the 15 minute version

I guess the 15 mins milarke might be a good thing as I can arm the alarm and then forget it. Then, just turn the ignition on before jumping back onto the bike and away I go. If I had to remember to disable the alarm every morning by pressing button 2, then no doubt id forget one day and wake up the neighbours!!

Problem for me is I normally wheel it out of the shed, lock shed up, go inside and get changed/wait for wife to get her kit on, lock house etc and then ride off. That means I have to go into the shed and flick the ignition on/off to disable the alarm so I can wheel the bike out. Nothing too serious, but a lot easier if I could just press the button on the remote.

The same goes for arming the thing too - if you don't press the button within 15 mins (and don't have it set to auto arm so you can fill up with fuel without causing it to go off!) you have to switch ignition back on/off to allow remote to work again. A PITA if you're in the house cause you then have to go back outside to shed rather than just blipping the button.

It doesn't appear that BMW thought things through when they decided to change how it operates.

Haven't read the whole thread so I may have missed something here, apologies if that's the case.
Putting the key in & turning it to 'on' de-activates my alarm. Similarly the alram activates itself 30 seconds after I take the key out......

I never need to use the fob at all.

Well just as I thought id cracked this case wide open, I encountered another issue.

I parked my bike up in the garage earlier today and set the alarm. This evening I went to the bike, turned on the ignition (to deactivate the alarm) and started pushing the bike out of the garage, and the alarm sounded. Bugger!! A quick press of button 2 stopped the alarm and so I carried on pushing the bike, only for the alarm to sound again. Pressing button 2 stopped the alarm sounding but didn't deactivate it, which is why it sounded a second time.

So why did the alarm sound if turning on the ignition is suppose to deactivate it???

Faulty alarm? Needs checking out.
