GSA alarm not working

Hi everyone

Took delivery of a pre owned GSA and the alarm does not appear to be working as it doesn't make a noise when rocked.

Before you ask I Have switched it on in the setup menu.

Will have a word with the dealer in the morning but was wondering if anyone can in the meantime explain what may be wrong.

Define rocked. My 2014 GS TE had the alarm, and it would only go off once you sat on it, or took it off the centre stand. If you're just rocking the back when while its on the main stand, it may not go off.

Rocking = a good shake

Usually enough to set off alarm on K1600 unless the GSA Alarm is less sensitive.

Anyone know what the two buttons on the remote do? The bike is one of the keyless machines

The BMW logo arms the alarm, and the arrow button turns it off. The alarms on the latest GS don't go off as easily as other bikes I've had.

Before you go to the dealer, put the bike on the side stand and arm the alarm. Then get on the bike. If it doesn't go off, you have a problem. This may save you an unnecessary trip.

mine goes off quite easilly, for instance while loading/unloading topbox.

tried it last night when I got home and will have another go this morning.

am wondering if the remote being in the vicinity the bike stops the alarm from sounding?

tried above and put it on centre stand armed alarm then taken off centre stand onto side stand without setting off the alarm.

sounds like a visit to the dealer is looming

Can the alarm be put into "travel" mode where it won't go off with just movement i.e for when you're on a ferry? The Hexhead alarm does - maybe its still in that mode? Just a thought.

I'm not to sure if this bike has travel mode. Will take another look at the owners manual but I don't recall seeing any mention of it previously.

Dealer has advised arming the alarm then trying to set it off without keyless key in my person.

alarm does have ferry mode but for some unearthly reason the alarm failed to work until I started cleaning it.

Dealer emailed instructions on how to use the buttons on remote and alarm is now working fine.

As much as It pains me to admit it I think the "fault" was user error.
In my defence my motto is "when all else fails read the book" and in this instance the owners manual doesn't mention the buttons on the remote/key.

You go into the settings on the clocks.

Unless I have missed something The only setting on the dash is ON & OFF.

Could you tell me which menu option to select to switch Motion Detector on and off

That's the ferry mode, it stops the alarm activating itself when you take the key out, i never had this problem because i put the screen icon to off and used a k1600 remote fob .

Below is an extract from email sent by my dealer

" The difference is that when Flashes twice the Alarm is set when Flashes Three times the bike goes into Ferry mode which means you can move the bike about whilst the Alarm is set and Alarm will not sound hence when on a Ferry it`s not going off when in transit.
You can have the bike set so Indicators Flash twice for set and the bike beeps to say it is set, this has not been activated and requires taking to a BMW service agent to do this"

I asked them about activating the beep, i was told it was not an option !
If you have a fob, the dealer should set auto-activation to off, so ferry mode is not an issue, and without the fob i was told i would have to deactivate (off) on the dash to stop it activating on the ferry !

That advice clearly contradicts information provided on page 57 of the owners handbook.

" confirmation tone sounds twice (if programmed)"

if gs alarm is the same as on my RR, then it should be relatively easy to program tone fo activating and deactivating alarm
