GSA clocks fascia

I have been mulling over whether to buy the silver face to match the paintwork or the white ..... i have ordered both as i could make my mind up. As the old saying quite rightly says "i used to be indecisive & now I'm not so sure" ....

Photos!

Good morning all!

Today, if it doesn't bucket down with rain, I shall attempt to fit those lovely clocks background, and take pictures in the process!

In the meantime, here's some photos of the products from the guy's eBya add.

Hope this helps!

New White Clocks Backgrounds!!!

At last, today I have finally installed the brand new white backgrounds I got for the clocks of my 2006 GSA.

Before I go any further with "Hooo-Haaa-Yeeepeee!!!...", I must admit there was a fatal (-ish) flaw to my genius (-ish) thinking:

***WHITE CLOCKS AND WHITE HANDS (needles) DO NOT WORK!!!***

:blast :blast :blast

What happens is, you stare at your dash and... well, errr... you can't see jack 'cos the needles are invisible in the midst of the white surrounding...

:eek :eek :eek

So now, after spending 45 minutes doing everything as advised by a very knowledgeable ukGSer member (thanks for the "2 spoons" trick!), I have to do the same again at some point, to try to give the two speed and rev' needles some colour...

:pullface

Any advice (again) on what kind of paint I could use for both "hands"???

I was thinking of red...

:D :D :D

Rather than paint the whole needle what about just the last few mm's (sort of between the miles and km markings), would give it a 'floaty' type effect :) , red would be my choice:thumb

Yes, good idea, that's what the other half said, paint the last inch or so.

Wondering if nail varnish (NOT mine!!!) would work???

But not sure of the result of direct sunlight next summer, there may be a risk of "melting"...

... and we wouldn't want that inside the clocks, would we!!!

Red is one of those colours that fades ....how many old red cars do you see with washed out red... you can remove the surface discolouration easily with "T" cut and polish. but it's not what you want stripping the unit down each time to polish the tips of the needles...
BTW the white faces look great

why not try some hobby paints for the needles?

my nephew is really into games workshop (painting toy soldiers etc) and i was lookign at the paints that they do, and they do some really good washes that might work? they are water based acrylic ones and do a nice one called blood wash! looks like it might be the right colour for the job, as they are washes they would "tint" the needle instead of colouring it, so you can see it at night, but the needle will still light up at night.

they also do other colours so depending on what clocks you get, you can choose whatever colour you want?

just an idea.......

Thanks Jonyboy, I shall go to my nearest Model Kits store and ask what they use on their model planes fuel-engines covers, that will stand heat I guess!!!

You can get "transparent" model paint - I remember an old Paris-Dakar buggy model I had as a kid with a bunch of Tamiya paint that gave a 'stained glass' type finish.
Sure it won't smell as good these days though.

R1200S needles

Hi all,

I was looking at the Wundermuch catalogue online when I saw a picture of R1200S clocks... which are white with... RED needles!!!

Has anyone got any idea if BMW would sell the clocks needles as an official part?

I'm not holding my breath and don't want to waste people's time but if anybody's got info, keep us posted!

im sure youll be able to buy them seperatly, looks like the clocks are generic to the 1200gs and the 1200s so shouldnt see why not,

dont want to think about the price though........:augie

Yes, you're right, maybe I should try to dig up which company BMW sub-contracts for the clocks and get hold of them direct.

I'll take everything apart again anyway once I've bought some paint.

The other option would be to buy a set of old R1200S clocks... but I'm getting very silly now!!!

Final result!!!

and more picture when the needles are painted, just ordered a set after seeing yours :D

Apologies for the inexcusable delay... I have finally bought some paint and finished off my "R1200S" style clocks.

The paint make is TESTORS, range is "Pactra", colour is "Racing Red".

I did one coat, let it dry, then a second coat after 12 hours... but it wasn't sticking to the first. Left it as it was, did my best, you can see the marks but it still doesn't look too bad. Will take pics at night later.

Blimey. They look excellent; love that red on white. Looking forward to the night shots.

Congrats and the detailed info has been very useful.

Night-time ain't as good as I thought, the brush marks are a bit obvious at close range...

Maybe one day when I'm bored I'll buy proper R1200S needles, in the mean time, that'll do fine!!!

:D :D :D
