I treated my GSA to a clean today and could feel my left hand frame clamp rattling, so I reached for the T45 and it would not tighten.no movement at all. So, off it comes, I thought, crack, then another crack:

Can anyone tell me if their clamp grabs the frame direct, or do you have an intermediate collar?

I can see a potential installation issue with these clamps. When one side is tight, the other is apart by 3mm, so if you tighten the wrong side fully, before applying the bolt to the other it will automatically mis allign and cross thread.

(Unless I have unmatching parts, which is a possibility in view of a recent job, i.e. left and right mixed up)

Just had a look at mine and all whats underneath is some thick clear protective plastic, to stop it marking the frame if that helps :thumb

Thanks Forestbiker, that was my recollection . Mine is missing and this clamp has recently been off and refitted without the plastic sleeve and now... I'll go and source a new part tomorrow :D

You just need some new bolts dont you ? looks like you will get the old ones out the clamp no probs :thumb

No probs  I have heard that before. I do have some sort of ease it out kit that I aquired some time ago, and this may be an excuse to try it, but I have no experience. Also, if the bolts are cross threaded, I'll be left with another problem I wolder how much a new part is
Does anyone do a postal 'no problem' bolt removal service? :D

ah right maybe a new one then ,or drill it out and re-tap it perhaps , im sure motorworks would sort you a clamp out , if you dont fancy doing it yourself :thumb

i've had two of these bikes and neither had anything under the clamps from new.

no breaks either.

Had the same.....

Spray with WD40 then go and Buy 2 x M8 stainless nuts, thread on the broken studs and weld nuts to studs (through the hole in the nut). Apply spanner to nut and wind them out. Heat from welding + WD will have em out:thumb

Or

Drill em out and buy longer bolts and nuts.

Mine are corroded into place rock solid, I tried to undo them during maintenance recently then thought better of it.

Sounds good Roger, but I cannot weld . £20.35 has ordered me a new female block plus two bolts (I like that word female, it conjures all sorts of images). :thumb
