Can you fit GSA Pannier frames on a GS hexhead (2010). I know you can do this on a WC because I have done this on mine. My mate wants to do this on his hexhead but was recently told by a BMW dealer that the GSA pannier frames will not fit a GS of the same era.

My mate wants to put the frames on his 2010 GS so that he can then fit Burmont panniers. Have any of you done this and if so was it straight forwards?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Neil

Yep. I have the GSA frames on my GS (2009). You need to take the pannier rails and top box mounts off (both easy to do) and then the GSA rails bolt and clamp onto the existing frame.

Easy to do both our GS have the GSA frames. Can get a few sets online EBay etc or straight from dealer, advantage of all parts and spacers and instructions:thumb Only picture I have is from back. We kept standard Vario as not so bulky when not loaded. been on for last 7 years and no problems. Both standard hexhead 1200s

for want of an argument and checking lots of parts slides.... aside from the tank size, shock length (both ends) and a different brake and gear lever they are the same bikes

Agreed. Which is why I was puzzled when a BMW dealer said they would not fit.

As for he said doesn't fit... the old GS does have different plastic work at the back AND was he three years old?

on his how to be a bigger idiot training course, he probably wasn't told about the older better air-cooled bikes.
The LC Adventure is a bit different...

It got unstable geometry to try and compensate for the larded tank and the fact someone might ride in the dirt.
That meant it needed a steering damper... but after killing a journalist they fitted that next year on the GS anyway..
The crank carried extra lard so the pointless emission standards didn't make it stall so often
And they added extra sog between the engine and the box... to make it more refined, but fitted that to later GS' anyway
you get cold legs coz they took off a bigger better plastic tank and added a cold aluminum fridge instead

Just fitted the GSA scaffolding to my ‘05 GS, no problem, needed to remove the Vario mushroom-locking-bobbins-side plates but fitted easily.
Bought the panniers and mounts from member on here, can’t recall bet they may have been from 2010 model.

Can photo if that would help

Thanks for that Popell. A photo would be great.

And the orientation!
