GSA FUEL USEAGE

Any body have any idear.
I have a GSA what use to do about 320 to 360 miles on a tank when I say 320 I still had about 30 ish left in her.
Well I did do a very silly thing (wrong fuel) nuff said, how ever I got the tank off tipped it up side down an gave it a good swill out.
Now I get 180 to 250 miles to a tank and it runs out. Yes stops.
But when I fill it I'm only getting 20 to 25 lts of fuel in the tank.
That tells me its not empty because I use to put in 29 to 32 lts of fuel in.
Now Iv looked at the pick ups so that's a none starter.
Will the on board comp say if it has fuel of not or is that a none starter and dose the bike have a res part in the tank that is controled by the comp or is it good old bits of pipes in the tank?????

:thumby: There was a load of stuff on here about a month ago about this particular problem but I don't know how to put in the post details.
It was very detailed, on about pump changes to do with fuel from one side of tank to the other: etc etc. Try putting in a search for r1200 fuel problems or similar, see what comes up.:thumby:
 
I do 65 miles every day, hardly any on urban roads.

Average speed is 50mph (according to the on-board guestimator), and whilst I don't rag the mammeries off it, I am certainly not Miss Daisy :)
I believe it is called progressive riding.

300 miles sees me looking for a fill up, which is within a quid or two of £40

I had an issue with it dying at 250 miles, and took it to Bahnstormers.
They did something, and now all is OK.
That was before I read about tilting the bike to the left to let the fuel flow across the tanks.

The engine feeds from the left side, and a pump is supposed to pump the right into the left as required.
Apparently sometimes the pump does not do what it is supposed to do, leaving 10 litres in the right side.
 
What dealer did you take it to. Just look on google and there is a few.
But that is the same as problem I'm having. I had all the right side of the tank out to see the pipes and looks ok. Had the left side out when I did the fuel reg when that stoped but that's on a solid pipe and braket it I remember.

They replaced the Fuel Sender.

Mine ran out of fuel, with no warning, and no reserve light.
Fuel guage went from 4 bars to 1 bar in 1/2 mile.
Trip had been reset at the last fill, and showed 170 miles

My 2008 bike did this last week. Not had it long and first time had run the tank down.

Engine stopped at lights no fuel, paddled to side of the road, then reserve light came on, 50miles left on range.

Popped 5L in with a jerry can and it showed half tank. Next am, popped £25 of petrol in and it only gained one extra bar.

Is it all quite normal?
 
Post 6 isnt normal. Try brimming the tank but also set the trip, because the sender cant be fixed with a full tank.

The unused return fuel is fed back to the tank via a venturi that sucks fuel from the RHS. If the pumped return pressure is low the venturi wont work properly so the LHS runs dry.
A careful search will find stuff about the fuel jet pump or venturi pump.

BTW mine does about 47 to 48 mpg probably quite close to the trip guesstoputer, but I do at least 50% on motorways and try to keep above the harsh vibes at 4500 revs so Im keeping up with the traffic. Otherwise Im:
  • filtering through jams - always wasteful on fuel, but clogging the roads keeps the VOSA wombles in a job.
  • Ragging it across country where the tall riding position is greart for making progress and the bike handles so well why waste it.
 
Try searching for 'sucking jet pump' and see if you can find the info you require.
 
Hi to all that look at this thread but all has been sorted out now.
One new fuel pump and one new syphon pump and a few hours or so fitting it all has got my bike back on the 340 plus miles to a tank. Happy days.
I think when I put diesel in my bike :blast I think it must have made some part of the pumps go down in there performance.
It was a fiddle job and I had the two round covers of as well but it all went ok. Thanks for the info folks. :clap:clap:clap:clap

The HA "Wombles" are nothing to do with VOSA.

The "Wombles" are concerned with keeping taffic moving etc, while the VOSA (or, as they have just re-branded DVSA) lot, who are generally seen in Ford Galaxies, keep themselves busy checking on HGV and bus drivers and operators, looking for mechanical defects and drivers' hours infringements.
 
I assume HA = Head Ache
Whoever employs them, the Wombles actually seem to be about bigging up their own part and sod allowing roads to do what they were built for.
If they really are about keeping traffic moving why is it that since they got the motorways gig, the whole road is closed every other day?
Not so long ago such a thing was almost unheard of.
They don't seem to appreciate that roads are not supposed to be car parks.

Bastards just looking too dip their mits into drivers pockets and steal their hard earned more like. Remember these cnuts are now self funding so they have to find something wrong each time they stop somebody......................so that they can get their wages !! CNUTS.
