I 'm about to pull the pin on a new Gsa from a 13Gs lc. I had the varios and liked them. The alu boxes for the Gsa seem very expensive. I do want hard luggage as i tour 2 up and like the security of hard cases. Has anyone tried any other hard cases and how do they look and operate. I do like the neatness of the Bmw boxes and the cut out for the exhaust keeps them close looking to the bike but the top box looks quite small. Any opinions and pictures would be great.

i used ARD Cases on my two F800GS' and was very happy with them.

That's what I'd do :thumby: You just need some rear footrest hangers from the standard model. There'll be plenty on eBay going by the number of bikes being stolen in London :augie

Trouble with that is the thieves will then have his address, so will pop round to nick his bike! Double bubble!:D

Anyone got a picture of varios on a Gsa, google search shows up nothing. Probably look poor. I will probably end up with the bmw alu boxes. I just think they are a ridiculous price for a few sheets of metal.

Try globe scout. They fit onto the GSA frames, have the exhaust cut out, are cheaper and better quality. Made in Turkey I believe, many in the USA use them with good reviews including my Brother in Law.

Cheers

The BMW top box is very neat, just slots straight into the rack, and sits tight up against the pillion, which i like. I got mine from here: http://www.bmw-motorrad-store.co.uk...51-aluminium-topcase-with-codeable-locks.html

I also got a PX cost for my GS, then in the 'deal' process said i'd like to keep my various, which i sold on eBay for a few £££. I kept a saved search on ebay and picked up a set of new GSA panniers for £450 so if you're not in a rush, i'd do that. Or check out the site above i think the panniers are about £600 with locks.

Thanks for the replies, must check out those suggestions. What i have seen so far is the set up from sw motech. I like the idea of the racks being easily detachable. I prefer the look of the bike without the scaffolding when the panniers are off. Does any one now how much wider these boxes would be over the bmw alu boxes.

i run mine without the scaffolding, takes about 10 minutes to re-fit for the BMW panniers. I had an SW Motech Trax box (ktm branded) which wasn't water tight (in fact it somehow wicked water up from the lid seal and flooded in the rain) and the metal is thinner, which means they dent easier, even from the inside! But they do look nice and the price is good.

Here you go

Looks good actually with the Vario's! Are they narrower than the upper engine bars in their smallest setting?

Yes definately looks better than i expected. Thanks for posting those photos. Does anyone have the exact width of the bmw alu panniers.

The trouble with side loading panniers is that they're a real pain to shut, if your inner bags are full.

Can't say I've ever had that problem, but had real problem keeping the ali panniers I had clean.
