So with the new lockdown rules I took my GS out basically to see if I should sell it as it’s been stationary since February was thinking just to keep the s1000xr I still am amazed how good this GS is! The seat is terrible compared to the xr and it’s slow and definitely needs a firmer rear spring but what fun I had this evening brilliant bike. Looking forward to 5.30am Sunday to take the XR out

That's exactly what I think every time I'm out on mine. It's pretty much the best bike I've ever had, in so many respects. Now with the shocks all serviced by Denz0, I can see it's going to be with me for a while

I get on other bikes and basically the brakes don't function.... I charge about over what's left of our roads without a care in the world and its so high I can actually see where I'm going...

other bikes:
hit the 18" long, 8" deep bits where the white lines used to be in the centre of the road and on every other bike it seems to have this idea it must try to kill you
someone tried to tell me my KTM SAT 1290 has linked brakes ...well if it does it isn't helping they are a total joke …. you can squeeze the lever till the discs turn blue and they get heat spots but the stupid thing doesn't actually slow down at all... (and its not because the KTM is quicker - it is - but you have to ride it so much slower than a GS, coz its a nasty death trap with no brakes, and no idea how to go round a corner)

Such fine bike, all I want and need!

Enjoy :thumb

Interestingly enough, when I test rode the XR I really disliked the seating position. But had no chance to see if there were any settings (high/low position) but I was pretty much "buried in" the bike.

it’s slow

You can say that loud.
On the last trip to the alps, changed bikes with my friend a couple of time (Adv 1290R) and that thing gets quickly to speeds that my GS won't reach even if I throw it down a brigde. :D :D :D
Still love it very much.

Been doing a little extra maintenance on my '07 GSA during lockdown.

Sadly looks like the rear frame will have to come off next winter for strip and repaint due to a lot of superficial rust points spreading around.

I have a couple of Ohlins TTX under mine. It makes it slightly stiff/less manoeuvrable at lower speeds (at least the way they're set up on mine), but it's really the best money you can spend on it, and on most bikes.

Another +1

It something you cant put your finger on, but it's just right

I think of it as blatting around in my favorite armchair :)

I tried others and .. thats about it..

would i change it, yes, but only for another :)

Plus One.

I commuted on mine yesterday and it made a travel day a total joy.

Same tomorrow into wales.

I’ve had loads but the GS is it

I did a couple of hundred miles on mine this week since fitting the Akro system

(I’m a key worker before anyone cacks their pants)

Still better than anything else I’ve had for that kind of work.

(But shhh it’s an LC)

I’ve not ridden a VVT job but I think the LC is the best I’ve had.

40k and not a single problem with it.

(Apart from me forgetting my tool to remove the oil filler cap)

The standard saddle is ..... well...... pain in the arse.
Get a Sargent or similar. Makes a world of difference.
A refurb of the rear shock makes a great difference, doesn’t cost much and is a piece of piss to remove/replace.

I love it (saddle). Flat, tall. You can slide on it easily if you need.

+1. I am a very average rider but the TC GSA feels just right. Yes it might be slow, big, heavy, but just great! An awesome steed as some on here would say...

I complete removed the rear frame from mine end of last year and had it powder coated along with centre stand and side stand looks absolutely mint!!
Now although I love my GS and I’ve no plans to sell it in my opinion the XR is a far better bike in every aspect as long as you never want to leave the tarmac. (Just my opinion)

That's what I used to feel about my 2007 GSA, and it's still a great Bike BUT, I'm starting to fancy a Change now.....

been there still got its replacement sadly...

well actually I had an LC but they got that back very quickly... lets just pretend its only the electronics that will offend if you try to ride hard. So then I bought a K1300GT to go with the old GS but is 340kg and its brakes don't work, then the screens crap and the seat is hopeless...( a bit of BMW theme there) so threw that away and got a KTM 1290. It makes so much power you wonder if it'll still hold its self together before you get home for tea.... but its all wrong, the electronics make it look like BWM got it right !!! and some half wit put the cruise switch on the wrong grip... then you soon discover the throttle is wired back to front, 3 mm of turn has the suspension tied in knots, but the last 15mm does nothing.... its rabid and angry where you want calm and smooth, then has nothing left when you want it, but that's probably a blessing (as I said above) the brakes don't work and it handles so badly you can't use any of the power anywhere..... its primary role appears to be for 20 minute police chases, then you park it up for 2 months and hope someone steals if before you have to suffer taking it out again

I actually took out the current triumph 1200 tiger and everything about its is an improved air cooled GS, the riding position is remarkably similar.... even the gear shift assist works (unlike a BMW) and you can turn it off in the menus but it works so well, embarrassingly I turned it back on ! It only has three big faults. heat from the engine goes only on the rider, the engine is pathetic and 18k for something just quicker than a 3k GS is a bit hard to swallow (oh and the suspension is made by the idiots who can't do it right on a KTM....)

OK....But I was actually thinking about a later XTZ1200 :nenau
I had one of the first but mistakenly swapped it for an Explorer.
The Yam was one of the best Bikes I've owned in almost 40 years of Riding.
I still like the GSA but I also miss the XTZ.
Trouble is, I can't warrant having two such similar Beasts in the Stable :blast

Eh!! I thought you'd sold yours and bought a toilet. So tell me, how was yours a keeper,,?

Have had a 2009 GSA and an XR. I loved the XR, was ballistic and simply excellent, but boy did I love my GSA. Sold it before I moved back to the UK, but still the easiest bike i have ever ridden and oh so capable. Am no speed merchant, so plenty quick enough for me, but as course not as quick as an XR........ Had a 2015 GS LC before the XR, was extremely disappointed and underwhelmed, would swap that for my 2009 GSA in a heartbeat! Both XR ans GSA are awesome...... I faffed around before buying the GSA because of the price tag, but tbh, all the money i lost in changing bikes because I wasnt happy with them, was far in excess of the increased GSA price tag........ You live and learn.......

ah, if only I had chopped in the K13 for the 700 mile XTZ1200 I tested....

its was great - bit slow, like a pepped up air cooled GS (probably just enough you could live with it), dived a bit under braking, but had real Japanese quality not this foreign junk we buy.... why no one buys it I don't know, its probably the best all round one, at 12k it would make sense but 16.5, for a 9k bike they are having a laugh
