Morning All

I seek the collective wisdom of the board. I am underwhelmed with the main beam on the 1300GSA. I live in the sticks and when it’s dark it’s proper dark. I want to add more light and have looked at the Lone Rider lights and A Bike a thing have suggested Exposure Radial 3’s.

I like the look of the line rider but have an ezcan set up for the rear additional brake lights, is there a fix that slows the Lone Rider to work through an ezcan?

In theory just add them to the white channel if you have one (and its free) and then boom! Your bike blows up 🤣
Just kidding, should be that simple.
They should then turn up in the software for you to configure as you see fit :)

You imply an element of technical capability I do not possess. I can ‘use’ the ezcan as its plug and play. Which is at the limit of my know how.

🤣 I get like that sometimes

Find your Ezcan. Look at the tails (the cables coming out) one of them will have a white wire. Thats the white channel

Yep, Lone Rider to white circuit and off you go.

I have a set of LR lights I might be selling (picked them up to run two sets)..

Why selling? I'm running two sets. What price are you looking for ?

It's me lol - I bought 2nd set cause of you! :D

I don't fancy running two x ezcan's and no point running 2 sets of lights at 50% each..

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sorry, I didn't realise it was you. I thought I was talking to that other chap.

Yeah, I can understand that, but the only way to run two sets at full tilt is two EzCans.

Trust me, even and 50%, they are still bright as f**k. And i love the 4 lights look from the front :D

I didnt want to run 2 cans either hence the splitter.

I'm waiting for HEX to release their new product (apparently in a few short weeks) then I can re-evaluate. If not, I'll just sell the 2nd set for £480 (what I paid) and they include the extra clear covers.

Are you talking about the ExCan Pure or something else.

I'm tempted to have them off you, but 3 sets on the bike would look a tad silly I think 🤣

No - I spoke with Hex earlier this week. They're releasing an addon for all Ezcan's that can use the white circuit AND another circuit (whichever is spare) to help with power load for people who want to run two sets of Lone Rider motolights (total 30AMPS draw)..

Oooh I like the sound of that. This double up of MotoLights must be a real thing then
Even tho I am happy with my setup, If I can run both sets at full tilt I'll take that.
Yeah, good idea to wait for that, sounds exciting.
Thanks for the additional heads-up. Absolutely, keep me posted, please.
I'll keep an eye out on the other forums I am on too :)

Np mate.

James told me he's testing the kit and that I must hang tight. I'm going to take these CoLights off and mount the LR lights anyway, I'll just leave the cabling under the seat so I can plug and go when it's ready.

41 200 lumens on the front of our bikes should make us quite visibile :D

Absolutely. It will be like day light coming down the road 🤣

I had a similarly underwhelming experience of the standard headlight, so I added the LR lights. They are so well designed - daylight, indicators, tuneability all great... and then you hit full beam on a dark night in the sticks. Holy hell, these lights are amazing.

The best way I can describe them is that most headlights have a point in the distance at which point they are no longer useful, but these seem to light up the damn horizon. I can't imagine ever needing double that!

Today’s silly question. How do you operate the extra lights and different modes?

You plug a laptop into the EZ/HexCan (made by the same people as I understand it - one is LR branded, the other not) controller that you need. You can oder that with the lights (as I did) or use the white channel from an existing EZ/HexCan. That will sound like gobbledigook if you've never used EZCan before, which was my experience. Essentially, the EZCan has 4 channels from memory. They each have a colour and can be configured for different things.

It might be the case with other brands now but I think it was a selling point of LR when I bought them (Minds greater than mine will tell you if I'm wrong!): One of the advantages of the LR lights is that you can connect both LR lights to one channel if you use the white channel; other brands seem to need 2 channels. You then tell the software installed on a laptop that the white channel is controlling lights and you can set up the different modes, brightness etc from there. I found the software very easy to use and the overall set up was a piece of piss. The only tricky bit is routing the wiring loom to the lights. Even that was pretty straight forward and it was a chance to see what's under the fairings.

Go for it - none of it is difficult. Pop some music on in the garage and zen out for a couple of hours tinkering with your bike. Heaven!

If you are running a single EzCan with a splitter, like I am, then both sets of lights do the same thing.
If you run a second EzCan, you can set it up so each pair can do different things.

The lights are digital, addressable and run on data, hence you only need one channel. In theory, you can have up to 16 lights on the same white channel.
Other lights are not digital and are discrete, so they need a channel each.

How do you change between the different modes whilst riding?

Once the lights are set up in the MotoCan software, you can then use the BMW wonder/whizz wheel.
  • Hi/low beam is linked to the ligh/low beam handle bar switch
  • Flashers are linked to the flashers. Left/Right and hazards (in sync or alternate)
  • Strobe is linked to the horn and 3 presses of the high beam switch
  • On/Off is a long press on the indicator button
  • You can also change the dimming and brightness with some combination of the indicator switch and whizz wheel, tho I have never tried it
  • The daytime running light ring you can't change on the go. You fix that at setup. I have mine set as daytime white, switching to orange when flashing
