anyone tried plugging a Keis heated jacket into the power socket that is fitted on the front of the 2014 gsa.....as soon as i plug mine in it turns off and same if i plug the little compressor in to inflate tyres, that runs for two seconds and shuts down... im told by bmw that its down to the canbus...??? why do bmw supply a power socket on an adventure bike that cant power a heated jacket...
If i wire jacket to battery via a fuse its ok but dealer says not advisable !!??
:help

Run an extra socket straight from the battery (via a suitable fuse). Useful for high current devices like heated jackets, compressors etc. Also means you can use a standard charger.

My Keis is wired directly to battery via the fused connector and it works no problems at all.

Even better news - the dealer fitted it when I bough the bike so no idea what problem your dealer thinks could befall you!

If I was doing it again I'd probably wire it in via a PDM 60 as I've also got an autocom fitted.

cheers guys....i have wired it straight to battery via fuse but dealer reckon the canbus is saying thats too much and if i wire to battery i could end up with flat battery....we"ll see.....
Bit annoying tho as the dealer was asked to fit a socket for me to plug heated jacket into and they fitted this one that is of no use....and charged for the pleasure....

All I can tell you is that last year I did a couple of trips with heated vest on, heated grips on, plus lights and spots on. Trip time each way was 3-4 hours continuous on a mixture of A and B roads.
No problem at all :thumb2

Best fit your own cigarette socket for the pump.

I would like to know the amount of watts each uses.

Im gonna see if the bike can handle Nav V, heated grips, keis vest, BMW spots, Clearwater spots simultaneously. Someone has a list for the F800 of how many watts all the bikes equipments uses though I can't seem to find one for the GS.

Hi John

If it's the full vest with sleeves it's 7A, wire it off the battery no problem. That's how me and Rick had ours in Scotiland no problem. Can bus socket only will take 5A, good trick is to wire one of the new charger cables on to the battery, then you can use it for vest, pump and charging with the appropriate adaptor lead, or go hi tick and put a fuse block in.
