GSA seat versus GS seat

I guess the GSA seat increases the overall seat height compared to the standard one ? Does anyone know by how much ?

Can anyone answer this one?

I'm about to obtain a pair of ADV seats for the standard 1200...

I need to know if they will produce the same ride height as the standard seats when put on the standard bike... I'd imagine that the suspension on the GSA is what makes the difference?

Reference above post... I've now just got back from Pidcocks where I tried a standard bike fitted with a 1200 GSA seat. It is indeed taller... and according to staff spec says around 2cm.

It does seem very well padded compared with the standard 1200 seat though..
;)

One thing that was brought up at Pidcocks... The 1200 ADV seats as a pair are a little too 'long' to put onto the standard 1200... unless you've converted your standard 1200 by replacing the rear 'wing' with a GSA rack and top case like I have:) Its the rear one that causes the problem apparently...

No, the GSA seat is thicker, and thus taller. Sorry, I don't know by how much.

GSA Seat set up

I have an 06 GSA and one of the first things I did was adjust the seat to a nose up attitude as previously stated on this thread. Far more comfortable and no longer feeling like I'm sliding forward all the time. As for the gap - just get used to it. After 3 years however I am about to invest in having my seat rebuilt by motorcycle seatworks in Bradford. I have heard some very good reports. Not as good as a Sargent but only £85. Hope it works as advertised!

Right just carried out a very scientific investigation of the height of GSA seat compared to my GS Low seat, bike on centre stand with front wheel on ground, using a spirit level across the seat at the lowest point the measurements are as follows;
GSA on low setting, distance to ground 935mm, distance to top of Fastaway footpegs on low setting 555mm. GS Low seat, distance to ground 875mm, distance to top of FF peg 495mm.
So basically a difference of 60mm between GS low and GSA on low position. So for you Imperial people just over 2-1/4 inches. For us vertically challenged its enough to make you cry! Bit different to the 20mm quoted by the dealer, but that is presumably the diff over the standard GS seat.

As far as the length of the seat goes I have managed to fit the GSA front and rear quite confortably with about 15mm to spare, so the dealer must be wrong and I have standard Varios fitted inc top box.
Hope that helps, certainly for me it means I will get my secondhand donor seat sculpted by an inch i think.

Hi, I have an 07 GSA seat that you can borrow for a trial to make your own mind up :thumb2 And if you find it to your liking it can be purchased as its just sitting around doing nothing :Motomartin As brought a Sargent seat a year or so ago and have not looked back :JB, well my arse has not any way :D

Cheers Chris

Chris,

Do you still have this for sale ? I am interested in buying a standard GSA saddle (front and rear) for my GS. Please send me a PM if interested.

Well I found the GS seat fine, I have just done 3000 miles around europe with the last 1,200 miles form Italy to my home in Somerset in one hit left my parents home in San Mauro Abruzzi at 08.15 rode to channel tunnel (arrived there at 01.00) for 03.25 crossing and got home 07.15. No aches or pains at all

Bryn did you swap the saddle on your standard GS ? If so how have you found it ? Which height setting did you use before / after and how do they compare ?

Thanks
Mike

comparing apples with apples here? I have the optional higher 1200GS seat (ok i have put it even higher by some diy work). Nevertheless i believe the BMW underneath seat part is exactly the same, so:
low seat - very little foam
normal seat - average foam
high seat - loads of foam
my seat - just great. You can move forward if wanted etc. I'm 6.3, Screen is another issue - you can't have it all:rolleyes:
