Bin it, I won't be needing it any more:mmmm . Been out in the dark and what a difference some light makes.

Coming down the motorway during the day, got to a bit of a tailback and it was like mosses parting the red sea, cars just seem to move right out the way, none of the usual last minute panicers that only see you just as your level with their door:thumb

Amen to that :D

Do any of techy people offer a service where I can turn up on my bike, pay some cash and ride away with it all done and dusted?
Any help much appreciated.

Mark.

I am sure this site could team up supply and fitting ... thinking of DirtyDog in the midlands ... I supply the lights and he fits them ... especially where cash and adulation is concerned

:thumb

That would be great:D
Have paid me cash (to Colebatch, cheers mate):thumb2 Loads of adulation waiting for Dirtydog................:bow :hug :kissy2  :clap

Fitted a few now, 1150's and 1200's, Terayon had his fitted yesterday, hand made bracket for the 1200 used to fit the ballast under the right side tank panel.
He was well pleased with the result :thumb2
PM me for details.

:D

Thought i'd drop this info in here :D

Just temp fitted my hid setup in to the micro de's. Beam pattern is identical to the halogen bulbs, no glare or anything, the cut off is also the same.

Someone on here had bad results trying to put hids in the micro de's, loads of glare apparently. I'm guessing different manufacturers use slightly different 'filament' positions :nenau

Not got them fixed into the light yet, hopefully that'll not be to much trouble to do.

I'd be very interested to see how you fix the HID's lamps. I'm about to start the conversion of the Micro DE's with 50W HID's after converting the Main and Dip with 50W HID's H&'s (from Colbatch). If the Micro DE's are half as good as the Main and Dip 50W HID conversions, it should be like parting of the waves through traffic.

If anyone wants the ultimate lights, I would recommend you comntact Colbatch and get his 50W HID's (and watever flavour and colour you want - I can't imagine you could do better - and no problems with the Canbus on the 1200!

Richyboy,

I have the 1200, so have Colebatch's H7 50W HID's - I'm sure you will be equally impressed with the ones for the 1150! You won't be able to believe the difference!

Here is an interesting article comparing 35 watt HIDs with 50watt. Its actually for conversion kits for light aircraft landing lights and they test 4 or 5 35 watt kits and one 50 watt kit.

http://www.preciseflight.com/ufiles/06March_Aviation_Consumer_HID_Article_Main.pdf

All the 35 watt kits performed similarly, but the 50 watt HID stood out notably.
"The real stunner was XeVision’s 50-watt lamp, whose brightness is best described as stupefying. Our target holder squinted in discomfort as he walked downrange to collect intensity data with the light meter. The 50-watt HID delivered more light at 600 feet than our stock light did at 200 feet."

could you point me in the general direction to buy an h7 50watt kit
many thanks

Colebatch is your man - he's posted on this thread, so you could look him up and send him a PM. If you're not a site sponsor (so can't PM), I'm sure he'll give you his E-Mail address.

He gets 'batches'of 50W HID's in the various varieties from China. I've had a pair of H&'s and a pair of H3's from him (H7's fitted, H3's still waiting!). The kits are good, quality seems good, and the results fantastic. They can be fitted in an hour or so, and the only issue is locating the ballast (mine are behind the tank panels.

Cheers,

Dave.

Dave, so no problem with the Canbus fitting 50w HID, and just to clarify you have two 50's fitted ?

I feel obliged to ask at this stage is there a genuine need to fit 4 HID's on a motorbike and what benefit is gained with throwing this much light forwards? I run a 35w dip HID on my 1150 Adv and find that quite adequate for my night time riding through the country lanes to and from work and I strongly feel that excessive lighting is a liability and a danger to other road users,

So are such levels of lighting being fitted out of necessity? If so I would strongly urge the rider to either slow down or get your eyes tested. Or is this yet another bling item?
