H7 LED Main Beam

Does anyone have problems finding the dip/main beam switch? The finger operated slider on Japanese bikes has always been intuitive for me but after nearly three years with the GS I still fumble with the dip switch.

No problem at all with the dipswitch which partly makes up for the fact that I can NEVER hit the horn button when I need it without first making an appointment despite riding GSs since the first day the 1100 came out...... grrrrr.

I assume you really meant too much.....

And judging by your over-sensitive response it wouldn't surprise me at all if you had a white fairing and wore a green hi-viz jacket.

Toodle pip.

Over sensitive, over sensitive!

You ignore me for years, then out of the blue you have a pop at what I have to say and when I show a little sensitivity in my reply you mock my grammar, suggest I have authority issues and say I'm being over sensitive! :wife

I'm sorry if you mis-interpreted my post as "having a pop at you" for that was not my intention.

As for correct grammar it can be a life-saver!

Let's eat Grandpa.

Let's eat, Grandpa. :-)

You mean there's a horn button? I've never found one !

Sorry BOBAD, I didn't mean to nick your line without attribution to you; I'm just not very good on the computer thing.
But I surely do take your point about the horn button: these switches really are sh-te aren't they. I know we can get used to them but I don't think we should have to. Particularly the horn button! How much practice must we have on that one?

......You mean there's a horn button? I've never found one...... !

The most frustrating thing is when you need to use the horn urgently as Dimwit Derek creeps towards you out of the side turning to the left ahead of you and your thumb locates the left-hand indicator switch instead of the horn button, giving Derek confirmation that it is OK to pull straight out in front of you because you will be turning left ...... Grrrrr !

I'm sure that practice will lead to perfection.

Exposing my relative ignorance on the topic, but this thread seems a reasonable place to ask:

Despite the descriptions mentioning "canbus" & "foglight", would these bulbs perform the function of headlight bulbs in a non-canbus bike? If not, why not?

I've asked the vendor and await their response, but would be interested in you guy's thoughts?

They should actually work but I don't think it would be recommended as they are fog light bulbs and I would say the light pattern would be all over the place if you are using them as your dipped beam.

Worth a try for £20? "Headlight" versions go for £60 or so, no?

Trying to get a grip on some stuff in advance of getting myself a GS.

I have ordered from the same source many times all sorts of bulbs and other stuff and it has always worked nicely.

However, when I ordered a LED taillight "bulb" which was advertised as CAN-bus proof, it did cause the error message to come up on the display of my 2005 R12GS.
I contacted autobulbs, they were extremely nice and service minded and offered an additional resistor for free, which I did not want. They took the bulb back and reimbursed the money.

If you want a LED for your headlight that works look at cyclops.

Lots of information can be found here:

Have a special look at the video in post 3081 on page 155 for the hexhead.

I have been looking for a while as my BMW LED auxiliary lights make my headlights look like glowing candles.

Was going to go down the Les Wassell route with HID but there a little pricey and since LED has come along way I thought id wait.

Found these and they are willing to give discounts also they do side light and indicator as well.

For the first time ever this generation of LED Headlight have a total of 16 ZES LED chips made by Philips Lumileds Luxeon; imported from Europe! We have been through rigorous testing of these kits and have worked very closely with our supplier in order to get this right the first time round. Please dont be confused with cheaper alternatives which claim to have over 6000+ lumens, this is simply impossible. You may want to refer to the Philips website to see what exactly the LED chips are capable of - feel free to drop us a message for more information on this.

All our Philips LUMILEDS LUXEON ZES Headlight Conversion Kits use much lower power consumption than traditional halogen bulbs and contribute to saving energy as well as being environmentally friendly. These kits are designed to last an impressive 30,000+ hours.

In particular this brand new model has been designed for vehicles which have space and/or fitment problems within the vehicles headlight cluster. With its innovative fanless and reversible heatsink design this product is a lot smaller and fitment friendly even in the tightest of spaces, without the loss in lumens output! Also ideal for motorcycle users, which can purchase this kit individually at a discounted price by getting in touch with us.

Our Philips LUXEON & also Cree LED kits have been manufactured to the highest standards and quality, which involves UV cutting of the bulbs to prevent damage to your plastic lenses and even water submerge testing to make them not only water resistant but waterproof. These are very high quality LED kits and are not to be directly compared with cheaper alternatives mainly found on auction websites. 60% of our custom is from returning customers who have already tried and tested cheaper 'copies' from the web - especially auction and international sites.

This kit is also designed to work with vehicles, which have CANBUS systems and it has been specially designed for this purpose therefore it will not damage any of your vehicles electronic systems. Our digital ballasts and LED drivers have been exclusively manufactured with in built components and microprocessors, which allow 100% compatibility with any vehicle giving you the best looking OEM LED headlights at an affordable price without any error and warning messages.

These are costly compared to may other LED bulbs BUT quality isn't cheap. The LED element in any fitment might last for 30,000 hours but few bulbs or even full lamps will ever get that far. Something always fails in the system somewhere. In the long run, some initially costly bulbs will be low cost compared to "cheap" alternatives.

If anyone is interested ill be importing some H7 led soon.
