Had it a week - on my first emergency assist recovery already!

Awesome. Not. Just found out (after I did all the chasing, mind:mad:) that Park Lane BMW (where it HAD to be recovered to yesterday (Friday) - didn't have any real choice in the matter) aren't even going to start looking at it until "Monday at the earliest". So 6 days in to ownership and no bike for (at my guess) at least a week.

Guess I might just as well cancel my week off and go back to work next week then....

Happy days:mad:

It's a bit late now, but maybe not.

If you can get your bike back, it's probably rideable, and sign up as a site sponsor (£12) you can contact Steptoe of this parish, who may be able to help you. :nenau He is not a million miles away. He was, I think, also doing GS hire (private). You could try Fanum, too, perhaps as he has bikes he hires for MotoMorroc. It's worth a shout.

You say there was lots of oil, covering the back tyre, brake calliper etc. It's possible that the causes might be several but the simple oil seal (around the big hole in the rear drive) does not leak that much, as a rule.

We had a bike on the Turkey trot with a rear wheel and tyre dripping with oil, there was so much. IA little bit goes a long way as they say, only as the wheel's rotation flings the oil outwards, like a spin dryer.

The cause? Not an oil seal at all.

A mechanic had simply not tightened the filler plug that lives behind the wheel, next to the ABS sensor. Refilled the final drive (it's not a lot of oil) and tightened the filler bolt and all was well.

Hi Wapping,

Thanks for your post. Unfortunately my bike is now in a locked compound awaiting attention next week - the dealership shuts in the afternoon.

Its definatly the oil seal and yes of course it looks worse than it actualy is - as you say it been spun around a bit. Im sure I could have carried on but as its a saftey issue (brakes/grip) I felt it was best not to start a tour with a faulty bike.....

Bahnstormer have very kindly agreed to go and get the bike from Park Lane Battersea and get somebody on it urgently first thing Monday (i'd prefer them to do it anyway) so top marks to those Guy's !!

I've no idea how long it takes to sort out the seals (any idea anyone, please) so there might be a slim chance that I can salvage at least the second part of my maiden voyage !!

No prob's. It was worth a shot.

The final drive oil seal, to fix?

About 30 minutes.... It's the same simple process whether BuMW in Battersea or Bahnstormer do it.

....I wouldn't cancel your holiday just yet.

In celebration, chip up £12....It'll be money well spent, when your fuel pump controller goes outside Fort William at -2c on Wednesday. ;)

Take care. :thumb2

Just had my final drive and Gearbox seal done today At SSB.
Booked in for 1pm had bike back by just after 3pm.
So not a long operation at all.
Cheers Lads :thumb

Well finally got it back yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon, which all things considered wasnt to bad.

Bahnstormer did pick it up from Park Lane and sorted the seal. At the same time they also did a service (which had not been done but should have before I bought it) and also did a free valet and Scottoiler treatment as an apology for the hassle of the recovery/missed trip, AND delivered it to my door as well (about 50 mile distance).

So I've missed the Scottish part of my trip (My mates are all heading back now anyway) so I have booked a hotel in Bath and will do a bit of Devon/Cornwall instead. Packing my panniers now, gotta go!:)

Many thanks to Bahnstormer - Appreciate the aftrsales service. good work guys:D
