Do I really have to follow the warnings on pages 14 -15 of the 1200GS Rider's Manual or can I fit my bar risers that I got for Christmas without fear of severe or fatal injury?

Pretty easy to fit - should take about 10 mins. If possible, get someone to hold the bars for you once you loosen the clamps otherwise you'll be fannying about trying to keep the fluid reservoirs upright whilst doing up bolts etc.

What are they?

If they're the Wunderlich "up and back" ones you need to extend the brake hose (probably) and this is more complicated if you have ABS.

Skippy.

I have a 2004 with ABS and had no trouble fitting the 'up and back' risers. I did have to re-route the brake line so that it is now behind the fork tube rather than in front of it. Still didn't take very long, and well worth it. Makes a comfortable bike even more so! Can't understand why the missus won't let me sit on it in the front room!!
