Because of an old back injury (car did not see me scenario), I like to ride fairly upright.
I am having trouble altering the handlebar orientation.
On the 2010 GS the LH grip and light cluster are as one and screwed to the bars by one screw that goes all the way through the bars.
My query is can I safety drill another hole in the bars to allow me to re-position the grip/light cluster?
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

My advice - no don't. Likeyhood is that it would be strong enough but you don't want to find out it is not while your "countersteering" round the twisties as you will end up in a hedge!!

Why don't you look through the Wunderlich range of handlebar adaptors and extenders etc? Bound to be something there that would make the alteration for you:

Take off your handlebar clamps reverse them and refit, it will alter the position a little forward. They are designed like this so you can alter the position, details are in your handbook. Worth a try before you look at other options, I run mine in the reversed position much more comfortable.

Many thanks for the advice Gabby. The problem I find when looking through the catalogues is I want to spend oodles of cash and head of into the sunset. However when less fuelled by home brew I will take a quick peek.

I will try what you suggest with the handlebar mounts to see if that works fatbaldbob. Mucho Gracias.

get yourself a set of rox-risers, they will allow you to get the bars anywhere you like forward, back and up,down.
i wasted time and money trying others.

I changed the bars for Renthals on my '05, didn't bother with the screw, the clamp tension of the grip has held it in place ever since. :thumb
