Just done 1100-1200 ish miles on the 1150 GSA at Dent & west coast of Scotland in the last 7 days

Wet or dry these bikes, still just do the job so well , never failing to make me smile & fast enough for the real back roads & main roads

Even in the company of much more modern bikes, they do just fine

Heavy - only if you worry about it, but be sensible & it's ok

Well in a few hours I pick up an S1000XR

I'm looking forward to a few days with it.

However, like a quick fling with a pretty girl, eating out in posh restaurants and sleeping in hotel rooms, the ride may be faster and lighter but there's nothing quite like home cooking and your own bed

And having said all that

On your ride out last weekend Yes i could have gone quicker than you because the bike is quicker, handles better etc etc but here is the thing would i have wanted to go any quicker ? probably not so i see where you are coming from.

Having never owned old tractor of a bike but now owning the greatest GS of all time I won't be up grading

In total agreement.

Yes, they are heavy and can vibrate a bit but they are also beautifully over engineered and relatively simple

Given the state of most roads up here I would say that they are the perfect bike for touring / living in Scotland

Same here......I've got some mini-projects lined up on my bike though, which I hope will get my juices flowing again.

At the moment, I'm struggling to find the motivation to get stuck into them though
