I have sometimes trouble restarting my XCh -07 after a short stop (when the engine is warm), like for refueling, it rotates ok and coughs at intervals at about every second, but doesn't start. The only thing that seems to cure it is to wait a few minutes. It never happens when the engine is cold.

I have replaced the battery to PC310 and removed the sidestand switch.

Any ideas?

It takes a few seconds to self test

I find that the bike takes a few seconds to self test (short period when all the instrument lights come on) If I hit the starter during this period, I have no success. If I wait until after this process has completed and think positively, it will always start

I recently had exactly the same problem with my 2008 XC.....it would start fine from cold, ride it down the road to the petrol station and it wouldn't start again unlesss I left it, sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes 20 and in the end anything up to an hour :(.
I took it to BMW and explained the problem and the fact that I knew about the battery recall.
They seemed to think it would be a fueling problem but would put on a new battery anyway.
Got the bike back after they had put it on their computer for tests, in my case they found no problem with fueling etc but the bike has been running perfectly since the new battery went on.

Have you tried starting the bike when it is in gear with the clutch pulled in?

Maybe you need to go and put the bike on the computer at BMW if the battery didn't cure it.
I was talking to a technician and there are quite a few safety switches on the bike......sidestand, clutch etc.
