Harris / Lewis?

The weather usually keeps the midges laying low, but, if the weather is kind, the midges are bloody ravenous!

Slightly off topic but still on the subject of Lewis and Stornoway: if you're interested in this area and enjoy an excellent crime story, then Peter May's Lewis Trilogy might interest you. I'm only on the first of the trilogy but it's a cracking yarn. He's been favourably compaired to the likes of Stieg Larsson and Jo Nesbo.

Amazon are selling one of the books on Kindle for £0.20p and another for £1.99 so it's not an expensive gamble. The third one (which I'm sure I'll buy) is £8.99, so I'm guessing they're confident that folk will happily stump up once they've read the first two books :thumb2

I crossed from Lochmaddy to Uig. Stayed in the Ferry Inn at Uig for the night (B&B). After dinner went to the bar for a drink and heard live music through the wall in the 'other' bar. A right sawdust on the floor place two young lads and a girl playing, a box, a fiddle, and a set of pipes (no Gerry, not Remus) even a moothie turned up as accompanyment.
Owner had to switch the lights out at 04:00 and told us to get tae oor kip, man a grand night, pissed and very happy. :friday

as a p.s. ........is there a fish and chip shop in Stornovay?

Stayed in the hotel at the waterside a few years ago and couldna' even smell a fish an chip shop - genuine fish that is :toungincheek

surely must be....theres a chinese......or was....still no reason to spend too much time in Stornoway whatever!

Along with the Indian (local languages spoken), there is a good chippie one street back from the ferry port. Easiest way to find it is watch where all the school kids go at lunchtime (though not wearing a track suit, holding a big cigar saying "now then now then") :blast
