Tenere Ownership
Gentlemen, we are running eight 660Z's for hire and for adventure tours in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
The bikes are capable, strong and well put together.
I hope I can answer some concerns/ queries:
Ride height; we have a lowering kit (longer bars for rear shock) combined with 15 mm lowering through the triple clamps, allows a seat height reduction of 30mm pre-rider. The bike rides perfectly lowered and the spring rate isn't affected, however they will bottom out in extreme (off-road) riding unless the pre-load is increased on the shock.
The motor is a Minarelli and the bike is assembled in Italy, therefore a few hours with the 'loctite' are well spent if you don't want to leave a trail of fasteners in your wake.
Check the rubber O ring seal for the oil filler in the frame, they can be prone to leakage.
The 09 bikes also have some subtle improvements including a new seat. The 08 is too soft for long days in the saddle.
Seem acceptable two up, we have had two guys on for filming and no problems.
One thing I would say, they do "drop off" when you close the throttle, this can be felt specifically downhill and especially two up. I ride it with a little back brake and throttle on in the corners for smoothness, when on road.
Twin discs are overkill on the front, one would be more than enough.
Hope this helps.
You can see us riding them in a little promo here:
