has anyone here got or ridden a new style XT660Z tenere?

I'm thinking about the akros on mine. Other than sounding nice to they make any noticable difference?

Don't know !

I will have to try it and compare when he's run it in..
They are not that loud with the baffels in :thumb2
I prefer the look of the standard pipes

Tenere Ownership

Gentlemen, we are running eight 660Z's for hire and for adventure tours in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
The bikes are capable, strong and well put together.
I hope I can answer some concerns/ queries:
Ride height; we have a lowering kit (longer bars for rear shock) combined with 15 mm lowering through the triple clamps, allows a seat height reduction of 30mm pre-rider. The bike rides perfectly lowered and the spring rate isn't affected, however they will bottom out in extreme (off-road) riding unless the pre-load is increased on the shock.
The motor is a Minarelli and the bike is assembled in Italy, therefore a few hours with the 'loctite' are well spent if you don't want to leave a trail of fasteners in your wake.
Check the rubber O ring seal for the oil filler in the frame, they can be prone to leakage.
The 09 bikes also have some subtle improvements including a new seat. The 08 is too soft for long days in the saddle.
Seem acceptable two up, we have had two guys on for filming and no problems.
One thing I would say, they do "drop off" when you close the throttle, this can be felt specifically downhill and especially two up. I ride it with a little back brake and throttle on in the corners for smoothness, when on road.
Twin discs are overkill on the front, one would be more than enough.
Hope this helps.
You can see us riding them in a little promo here:

Comment of the day " Gaz it's better than i thought it would be "

brilliant pictures, fantastic views

what bike did he have directly before the tenere?

He's got a 1200GS and a KTM450EXE... :augie
But was looking for somthing in between

My goodness, those are damned ugly headlamps!

Like the rest of the bike though.

I do like the blue 09 bike :

Is there a taller seat option ?

the new mudguard looks great

are you taking off the lower mudguard now?

I'm in two minds. I think it will look better without the lower guard but it does keep some of the shite off the engine.

I can't decide if it looks naff with two guards. What do you think?

it doesnt look right with two white front mudguards tbh

come half way by making the lower one black and less noticeable but still doing its job:thumb2

what he said

or get a black one and modify it so you only have the back section of the lower mudguard for the proper look :nenau yet still keeping the worse off the engine

Alternator output.

Does anyone know what power the alternator puts out? (GPS, HID's & Heated suit)
Cheers Kong.

I rode a mate's brand new 09 Tenere this morning for an hour so.

Very impressed !

The motor is very smooth for a single, and the FI was absolutely perfect,as mentioned above.

Obviously less power than, say the KTM 690 engine, but much nicer and I would take it over the 690 every time.

Nice handling (on road) and generally well setup.

But my only complaint is the stupid bloody seat !!

And this is the supposedly improved 09 version over the old 08 bikes :

Why the cut out and stupidly high pillion seat ?

I felt I couldn't sit far enough back as the pillion bit scoops down and stops you.

And it's easy to catch the back of the seat getting on and off.

I would much rather they raise the main bit by an inch and drop the pillion by an inch.

I'd still like a blue one but would send the seat straight off to Renazco for him to work his magic.

Or perhaps Yamaha will offer a taller, flatter version ?

But the SE and GSA does everything that I would use the Tenere for-and alot more besides.
