whats it going to be worth after a year?

Wrong way of looking at it dude......
"What am I going to be doing on it during the next 365 days?".... is more like it.
I couldn't give a feck what any of my bikes are worth, worth being only the price that someone will pay you for it.
So first of all, it's worth only arrives when it has been up for sale and someone has bid you on it.........

So whilst your worrying about what if?, your time on the earth alive is passing you by....... tick-tock-tick-tock.....

Timpo's spot on , up to a certain point. It does somewhat depend on how much disposable income you have and what you enjoy spending it on + how soon you'll want your next new bike. The cost to change is always the killer.

If you a worried that your new Tenere will be worth after a lot less after a year then the simple answer is to buy a year old one .......they've been out long enough.....and then do what Timpo suggested

Well I do kind of agree Timpo but as Rushy said, my point was not everyone can afford to loose £1500 in the first year especially if they are the kind of person who likes to chop and change. I would never be able to buy new knowing that if I fancied a change after a year it was going to cost me that much, I just couldn't afford to do it.
When I look at the amount of bikes some folk have and how much some people are prepared to loose on something like a 1200 when the repayments have been higher than my mortgage, I know I'm poor!

Well I have never really looked at these before but have been in Wales riding some trails this weekend with a guy who had one of these. It's a cracking bike, he has Zegas, TT rack and handguards fitted on a white one and it looks the biz.

I have 2 new bikes and i will loose on both but not as much as i would have as i made sure the part ex bikes owed me less then they allowed p/x which eases the initial blow. I also agree with Timpo your only here once and i intend to get and ride as much and on as many bikes as i can before money or whatever stops me.

I said in a conversation the other day, that if for some reason I had to get rid of my fleet and keep only one bike, it would be the Tenere to stay (though the DRZ-E would be very close second, only the road capability letting it down).

There has been one or two machines on fleabay, but I have not seen any 'used' models in the shops.
Marriots M/cs in Birkenhead have two new ones in stock.....

The red is horrible and that metallic blue is nowhere near as nice as the 'classic' blue and yellow.......grab a white one while there are still some left OR after that i'm sorry but it has to be the black.

1. What do they actually cost with extras after bargaining?

2. Does that screen/clock arrangement seem odd for off roading?

3. Do they carry weight well when loaded for a trip?

4. what are they like on a long motorway trip compared to a GS

5. Which end of the pogo / GS spectrum do the feel at off road?

6. What are they like on the road with knobblies on compared to a GS?

I bought one of these last week, got a great deal on an 09 plate ex demo that had done 119 miles registered march 16th so not even a month old inclusive of first service when ready £4000 which I thought was a steel however hated the lava red which has replaced the excellent white for the 2009 colours so much I ripped it to bits and resprayed it in white, cost £86.00in paint and bits and £44.00 for the stickers but it does look sooooooo much better will post pictures when I can sus how to resize them

I'll answer these as best i can but I'm a very gentle off roader

Mine was an 08 model bought before the price increase so i paid £4400 ie they dropped £200 without much of a fight. Didnt order any extras at the time but since then they appear to have dropped in price anyway

2. Does that screen/clock arrangement seem odd for off roading?

Not really its feels the same as the GS or 640 ADV type bike

3. Do they carry weight well when loaded for a trip?

Fully loaded(Metal Mules and seat pack) it still feels lighter than a naked 1200. Not quite as quick as when its not loaded but handles much the same

4. what are they like on a long motorway trip compared to a GS

Some people suffer from bufferting but its fine for me. There are a selection of taller screens out there. It will sit at 80-85 all day on the M-way. The seat is a bit soft after a while and could do with improving but no worse than the standard 1200 seat. Where the GS scores on the m-way is if you're carrying a pillion or you need a wee burst of power to complete an overtake above 80 mph

5. Which end of the pogo / GS spectrum do the feel at off road?

Not quite sure what you mean here but I would put the tenere between the
800GS and the X-Challenge. Thats to say the 800GS is a better road bike than the Tenere and the X-Challenge is a better off road bike

I think it feels like a 1200 GS on the road with great road presence but feels so much lighter and surprisingly quick for what it is, and very well geared

After a quick go on a 800 today
I would say the Tenere felt lighter and more nimble
and the main thing i think in the hands of a novice off road the Tenere would be a far easyer bike to get on with
