Have you ever managed to fill your RT without sloshing fuel over yourself??

If so, what is the trick? BMW have obviously spent a lot of hours creating the worst designed fuel tank filler ever. I just cannot fill it properly without spilling some. What is that red thing inside the filler for, if not to make it hard to fill? My honda - just open the cap and fill the tank - no fuss, no spills.

Also, can you get more in on the centre stand or side stand..?

Do a search for fuel filler mod, it should help :thumb2

Centre stand :thumb

Is that the mod that involves drilling a hole in the top of the tank where there are lots of vapours waiting to go bang?

That's right, and make sure you have a candle there so you have sufficient light

I don't have any problems whatsoever and I probably put more in than I should................but then I am VERY careful. :)

Never, ever had a problem with either of my 12RTs and I always filled them to the brim.

Have you tried fuelling with your eyes open? :augie

Reading the fuel filler mod threads elsewhere, opinion seems to be that the red thing prevents you filling the tank to the top, leaving an air gap. It would seem that the purpose is to allow for expansion of the fuel vapour in hot weather and also to prevent the fuel running out if the overflow/breather when you put the bike on the side stand and you have filled it to the brim (which the red thing prevents you from doing).

Having read the threads, I am inclined now to leave it as it was, as I am not keen on having fuel pouring out over the bike and or road when full.

Still a crap piece of design, though....
