An event horizon somewhere...
I have decided to replace the head bearings ( 1100 ) cos there is a definate notchiness when the bars are turned side to side.

But the allen bolt in the middle of the bearing is on well tight.....really tight.

Before i get medieval on it tomorrow has anyone had the same problem and overcome it or am i missing a step in undoing it, the haynes is extremely brief on this task.

Cheers :thumb2

You have removed the circlip, haven't you ?.

If so get some heat onto it. If it's still the original bolt it'll be locktighted. Plus you may find the bearing will come out still attached to the bolt.

Yep i have but it it must be the original judging by your info.

I'll try some heat on it ( paint stripping gun ) and if the bearing comes out as well.......double bubble :beerjug:

Thanks Neil

All done now, i had to use a 4ft tirfor handle on the socket to get the allen bolt out but it came in the end.

To get the bearing out i used a gas ring to warm up the area around the bearing and it came out easily using a big socket and lump hammer.

Feck me, new tyres, brake pads, all the oils and filters changed and new head bearings done....schweet :thumb2

If you haven't got the special tool then a vice and appropriate sized socket work perfectly.
