Its some years since I rebuilt my motor - '94 GS and I cant remember if you just use the "O" ring or the 0-ring and gasket on the cylinder base.
I thought I just used the 0-ring....?

Anyway, a mate has just turned up on his '94 R100 Classic and his left boot & carb is covered in oil. Looks like the head gasket is leaking.
The push-rod tube seal are dry and its not the rocker cover gasket leaking. Maybe they forgot the small O-rings...
I also noticed that there is some sort of gasket goo round the base gasket. I thought that was a no-no :nenau

Your knowledge would be welcome:thumb2

I can go go to Landau to get gasket set tomorrow.

IF cylinder base has recesses O rings x 3 ....................2 small on top studs and one big around cylinder

If no recess base gasket

AS to mates bike take off rocker cover and set that side to TDC and CAREFULLY try a torque wrench @ 25NM if it wont click its likely a pulled stud Needs helicoiled

Funny enough every one that I have encountered has been front upper right side

Yup, of the no gasket variety

CAREFULLY try a torque wrench @ 25NM if it wont click its likely a pulled stud Needs helicoiled

All good :JB
New gaskets/seals and on his way.

I found some interesting bikes in the bike shop showroom (not a BMW dealer but a specialist). Will post later.

top cylinder head studs the top ones use a small o ring in the recess of the barrel ,and you have a big o ring around the barrel that goes into the crankcase p.s the top studs supply the oil to the rockers under pressure hope that helps
