My 90th edition RT headlight is picking up the satellites and tops of signs which is making me unpopular with oncoming traffic.

I have wound the headlight adjuster all the way down and back to check but the headlight beam is just far to high.

Should I be doing something very different.

Its going for its first service this Saturday but its nice to know what the likely issue could be.

Thanks

I had the same thing in my new RT, and I reckoned it was caused by the headlight being "spring loaded" and not dropping down correctly. Anyway, like you, the joy of a new bike is you just chuck it back at the dealer and get them to sort it under warranty.

Also, off topic,, I have discovered that all the advice on this forum about using the tyre manufacturers pressure settings rather than BMWs is absolutely bang on. Blown the tyres up hard as per Bridgestone has transformed the handling and made it much more progressive and consistent.

YMFB - I notice you are Salisbury. Where did you get your bike and get it serviced? Bit of a dearth of BMW people around us. I ended up going to North Oxford BMW

Puggy,

I go to CW at Dorchester, i have used NOG and no real complaints but CW go the extra mile, always provide a loaner if its going to take sometime. Its more of a family feel at CW.

It helped that I got a cracking deal on the deal of px my K1300S for the new RT but they are definitely my preference.

I have looked for a local independent who specialises in BMW's but no joy so far.

This seems to be the way they come out of the factory... it was the same with mine.
However there is another adjuster, which is just about accessible by delving into the fairing behind the headlight. You'll need a small open spanner to make adjustments to the adjustment screw nut to be found in there. With this you can make as much adjustment as you need.
As you have found the adjuster knob on the dash only has a limited range of adjustment.

Nail on head, sorted by dealer at the weekend.

Thanks

Just done mine. I reported this at last service but it came back with the report that they were fine. However, I still got flashed.
Found the 13mm head with a mirror and torch. Undoing the knob adjusts the beam down. Bit worried how long to go on before it might come out but it seemed OK. Ratchet ring spanner was ideal.

Same here, got the extra adjustment carried out at first service.

I had HID on my 1150RT but the standard lights on the 1200 seem to be very good so might not go to that extra expense.

Seem to remember a report of somebody on here breaking the adjuster? Only plastic i think......

I managed to do that on the hire bike I had in the US last year :blush I had to (gently) lower the headlight around 8 turns of the adjuster in Spain this year before oncoming cars stopped flashing me.
