so happened for the first time last night, and the same thing this morning
started engine and got the LAMPF error on my LCD screen

on inspection, dipped beam not on

but it appears after the engine warms a little (boht occassions from stone cold) it comes on.

is this normal?

Funny you should say that.
Had exactly the same yesterday morn.Hopefull someone will be along.

spoken to my dealer and he assures me its not normal, on inspection i have managed to get buld working generally, but have also just had it blow in front of me (d'oh) off to halfords i go!

HID or standard lighting.

If HID... it is sort of normal in cold weather that some of the poorer HIDs trigger the over current on the canbus

Almost certainly a faulty bulb. Vibration can sometimes cause a blown filament to 'knit' back together for a short while before it blows for good.

that's what i think too.

i also think the dealer's talking bollocks.

I get that issue with my HID on cold mornings - 2009 Adv. Done many tests, it will start when connected across the battery even in cold weather! Put it down to high initial current draw on the canbus system when the HID fired up. Had the HID exchanged by the supplier, but had the same problem the next cold morning.:nenau

Have you tried a different bulb - it would certainly tie down if the problem was the bulb or somewhere else.

Its probably not related to warming up, its vibration, I have had intrermitant problems with the lamp warning for 3 years... i have traced it to a bad connection with the 3 pin plug from the loom into the lights just behing the lights. Just push it firmly and you should be OK. Its annoying but not a show stopper. When I have the problem it will normally go away as soom as I pull away, therefore increasing revs and movement.

I get that when starting the bike when it -5C or something. Blip the throttle and everything light up OK. Sometimes I have noticed a whirring noise when this happens and assumed it was the alternator not providing sufficient charge until the engine was 'blipped'.
