If anyone is planning on putting their BMW engine bars from their 2013 LC onto a 2014 or newer, they won't fit.:rob

I had a call from the dealer this afternoon to say that the 2013 bars won't fit, and there is no way of making them fit.:blast The bars for the 2014 onwards are a different part number.

I'm guessing that this will be the same for any make of bars, as the frame on the 2014 onwards is different. Touratech and the like are going to be annoyed.:P

Here endeth the lesson.:rob:P

Did they say where the difference was ! I've got some TT bars i want to fit, but you may have thrown a spanner in the works .

Nope, I'll know for sure tomorrow when I speak to them again. They said that there's no way the older one will fit. They're pissed off, as they bought a load of bars in ready for the new 2014 bikes on order.:blast

Touratech will be chuffed- they get to sell a load of new bars, instead of watching you transfer your old ones?

Al

I had a 2013 bike which was replaced with a 2014 one after I rejected it. The dealer swapped the bars from one to the other.

Nutty ya pulling my pisser, I've just got in and first thing I've gone out and done is fit my TT bars, I can confirm they fit perfect.

Now I can eat my cold tea knowing my bars fit.

Makes ya wonder nuts if they can't fit the bars correctly, what else goes amiss :(

Those with 2014 bikes, when were your bikes made? They won't have been made within the last two weeks, as BMW has changed the part number for the bars, as the frames are now different.:rob

I know this sounds like the rambling a of a madman, but I can assure you that I am serious, the part numbers have changed, as the old ones won't fit.:rob Call your BMW dealers tomorrow, and they will confirm.:thumb

I've just had a look at the online accessories brochure for 2014, and looked at a picture of my 2013 bike, and the bars do look slightly different.

The part number for the old bars is 77148533693, and I'll get the part number for the new bars in the morning, so you'll know that this isn't a wind up.:thumb

Very strange ! The GSA bottom bars are totally different, they have the attachment for the upper bars, can't see why the frame should be changed unless they have strengthen the frame for the GSA and as you say 1 frame now fits 2 bikes or they have realised in the event of a drop with the BMW bars fitted, the frame mounting points bend ! They won't admit that if its the case tho.

ok. Deep breath. When people here talk of 2013 vs 2014 bikes , what are they actually talking about ?

It can't be a Year Manufactured 2014 bike because ... umm .... its still not 2014 yet.

if the theory is that its a bike made in 2013 but carrying 2014 specs , ok ... so , how do you tell if you have a 2013 bike but made in accordance to 2014 specs ?

Usually with BMW all bikes manufactured after Sept are the next year's spec

However during any given year the bikes can have manufacturing differences as stuff gets improved or changed

Quite feasible the frame has been changed - perhaps the steering head angle has been altered to fit in with the fitting of the steering damper?

Or maybe to build one frame for GS & GSA

If so a major update - Nutty get your ruler out :)

according to the VIN , the bike is a 2014 bike. Ie , the "E" in the 10th position of the VIN.

so now , we're being told that its not the VIN , but rather frames built in December 2013.

how do you know your frame was built in Dec 2013 ?

and are you saying that your frame (allegedly built in Dec 2013) is now sitting in at a dealer where the crash bars' mounting do not line up ?

.

BMW change stuff all the time during any time in the production year, Jan 2014 built bikes could have pink anodised fork clamps, whereas Dec 2014 bikes built bikes don't

March 2014 built bikes could have BREMBO stamped on the brake calipers, whereas Feb 2014 built bikes don't

BMW change stuff without publishing they are going to, it is their perogative

Right, to clarify.:rob

The part number for the bars for bikes produced up to December 2013 is 77148533693

The part number for the bars for bikes produced after December 2013 is 77148548686

Some bikes are still coming from the factory with the "old" frame, so if you're thinking of buying bars, your dealer will check your VIN so that they can supply the correct ones.:thumb

More importantly, what is the difference between the frames - other than points for engine bars?
