Heated Grip Resistor

I am looking at retro fitting BMW heated grips to the misses 1150GS and wondered if any one can tell me where the resistor is for the low heat setting?
At the moment the bike has old Hien Gericke heated grips and I installed a 3 position switch with the correct rated heat sink resistor which does get very hot even when bolted to the metal spot light bracket.

In the original setup they use a wire which has a resistance value of 1.9 ohms to drop the voltage.

Thanks Ian , think I have solved my hot resistor problem , it is only rated at 25w so I've ordered a 100w one , should handle the load a bit easier.

My recollection is that for the original grips, the heat was varied by having both grips in series for low, in parallel for high... i.e. no resistor.

Nope!

The orange wire in the heated grip circuit is rated at 1.9 ohms and is a resistance wire.

When the resistance wire is in circuit, the voltage across the grips (8.5 ohms) is about 9v. So we have 9v on low and the full 12v on high.

Hmmm. I changed the handlebars on my 1150GS and did research the heated grips a bit....unless I am thinking of the R1100RS I had before that...
