Is it possible to replace just the rubbers on the heated grips?

They seem to be wearing very rapidly (5,000 miles) compared to every other bike that I have owned and my gloves are not made of sandpaper!

Maybe the rubber has to be special heat transfering rubber, which happens to be softer?

Anyone else notice this?

Certainly can on the 1150, as I've done it twice now. Mike O recently posted a thread with pics when he replaced his - I think it's on the GSClub site.

Funny, I was thinking the same the other day. 6000 miles and very worn.
Maybe because the grips are narrower than on the 1150?

Mee too. After 9k the RH rubber is almost smooth, same happened on my 650 also fitted with heated grips.

Does anyone know if the chunky grips from an 1150 will fit the 12?

I find the grips a bit thin and would like something like the grips that used to be fitted to bonnies in the 70's.

You don't want to use the 1150's grips as they are thicker and leave black marks in your hands every time you ride.

Try after market Harris grips of the same diameter. They work well and last long.

When removing the current grips be careful not to tear off the inner heated tube. Otherwise it'a a straightforward job.

Mine has no heated grips but the plain grips look the same, and are almost worn smooth now after 19k. Could you buy the OE non-heated rubber grips and fit them over the heating elements to keep it looking stock whilst saving money ??

I forgot to mention you might have to buy two pairs. Since the heated grips have heating elements on both sides which make the diameter larger, you usually need two right sides, as in other bikes with no heated grips, the left side in narrower.
