Evening all,

My 2002 1150 GS has heated grips that are starting to split and expose the filaments, is it possible to replace the rubbers(if so, where would be best to purchase them from) or more adviseable to buy new complete units from Motoworks at £70 ish per part ?

Cheers,

Rich

Depends on your budget and desire to keep it standard looking.

Any grips (of the right size) on Ebay will go on, or you could use squash racket tape or similar to do a temp or even semi permanent repair.

I'd probably go the Ebay route meself, but keep the replacements as close to the look of the originals.......but it's your call :thumb

I did this job on my 2002 1150GSA this afternoon. Allow 20-30 minutes.

The grips were removed by carefully cutting from the inside lip using a craft knife. My grips were in a very poor state, so after the initial cut I was able to pull the old grips apart. Be careful, BMW used small amounts of adhesive between the end of the grip and the heating element

I used 2X RH grips from Motorworks (part # HAA58396) £6.60 +VAT each.

On first inspection the new grips seemed a slightly smaller diameter than the originals, 5 minutes immersed in hot water along with a small amount of washing up liquid ensured an easy fit

Good luck

I did mine 2 weeks ago following the guide, took all of 20 mins to do the pair.. they are now "grippy" to boot, which after 12 years of hot cold, rain sleet and other elemental abuse is no shock the old ones were like bakelite!

I've done mine just recently, got almost like for like grips from motoworks 2x right sides for about £6.oo each. I used the Hairspray option to put them back on, surprisingly easy to do...... the only job I have found easy.......

Ps use a really sharp blade and go easi on the cutting.....

Thanks everybody for the informative replies, sorry for the delay but I am away quite a lot with no internet connectivity.

Cheers,

Rich
