R1100GS 1997 model.

Switched the heated grips on for the first time since last December and unfortunately the left grip stayed uncomfortably cold.

Before I start to strip everything apart has anyone else had this problem in the past and found that there was a simple solution.

Cheers

Clean the connectors in the connection socket under the tank. Mine were just a bit corroded on the last 1100, so one of the grips didn't work too, but just needed cleaning. Sorted.

It's usual for the left grip to stop working -

The element breaks, due to all the pulling onto the stand etc with the left grip .

This happened on my old airhead, just as Steptoe said.

Unplug it & clean/check the contacts for continuity. If the element's broken, you can repair it by very carefully cutting the rubber grip off, soldering the broken ends together & putting a new grip back over it. Alternatively, a replacement grip is about £50.

HTH,

Pull your machine onto the centre stand byn the frame (where it feels natural to do so) instead of by the handlebars. I can't think how you need to use the bars as a lever anyway , it's not ergonomic.

SNAP!

SNAP!

Just out for a quick spin this afternoon on my 1200GS still using summer gloves but switched the grips on and I also found out that the left grip has failed!

Bike is April 06 R1200GS which is booked in for 12000Mile service on 31-10-06 so hopefully they can replace the grip as well under warrentee.
