heated grips

Just wondered if any boby has had the same experice....
Heated grips on the 07 GSA, i have noticed this for some time now but thought i was imagining it, untill my mate said the same thing.

i was out the other day, riding from Bristol to Padstow, very early in the morning, so very cold. I put the heated grips onto full from the off.
They very quickly got up to temperture, and were almost too hot. I then stopped for fuel at Taunton, got back on the bike, grips still on the hot setting, but this time with almost no heat at all, this remained the same all the way to Padstow. My mate has the same bike and he tells me the same thing happens with him.
Is this normal, and if so how do you make them run hot all the time.

Could be starting the bike with the grips on high caused the controller to shut them down?, as it would certain other loads on the accessory socket... Were they definitely on low? or were they off?

At low revs the accessories can be shut off to route juice to the battery - its in the handbook

Grip probs

Ive got problems with my grips too ,when the heat is on the throttle gets stiff,when its on high setting (rarely) can hardly move the throttle ,only remembered when I just read the above posts.Is it a quick fix or a dealer Job

This is because the warm rubber grip gets bigger than when cold... I had it happen on one of the World of BMW bikes on the offroad 1 course...

Not sure how to fix it, but I suspect that it'll be as easy as a shim or a trim..

Easily solved by putting a washer between the end of the handlebars and the bar end weight. You could probably do it yourself. I was lucky in a way as the first time it happened to me I was on my way to CWs. Mentioned it to one of the mechanics when I got there and he'd sorted it for me 5 mins later. No charge.

Tried searching this site for a solution ???

I posted about this problem ages ago, you need to slacken off the RH switchgear and move it inwards a little so that when the heated grip expands, it doesn't rub against the switchgear and cause your throttle to stick. Needs a small Torx screwdriver bit and 5 minutes to sort it, which is easier than a large Torx bit and breaker bar to undo the loctited bar end weight with.

Strangely I've experienced a similar situation but it's only the left hand grip that loses it's heat (Like it's set on position one) while the throttle grip is warm as toast!
