Hi,
Does anybody know if its possible/practical to retro-fit heated grips to an 1150gs? Ideally I'd like to use standard BMW parts. Any idea of cost and where to source the bits?
Thanks!

I had them fitted to my last 1150GS. They were done by a BMW dealer for an all in price of £300.00.
I had it done when I bought the bike and for riding in winter it was money well spent. :thumb2

Try searching "symtec" on google. A company called Winding roads sell them in the uk. I've fitted some to my ktm 950 adv and the heat output is as good as the bm's I had.

If I remember correctly the cost was less than £50.:thumb

Hi,

I think you can get the bits from Motoworks or Motobins - and fit them yourself. - around £120ish from memory - I did it when I had a K100RT and they were original BMW bits as I recall - give one of them a ring. I may need to do that myself as I'm thinking about commuting by car for a while as it's getting colder!

Cheers,

Graham.

I had some interesting one from Bob Porchea a few years back.

Only £35 they come from New Zealand and go inside the handlebars.

Means they dont move so dont wear out.

2 heat settings and worked pretty good.

Are they still available ?

I had some of them too - Warmfit - Can't connect to their website any more www.warmfit.com Good thing too cos they were rubbish in my ally bars. Might have been ok in steel bars though.

Currently using Oxford grips on Pro-Taper bars and they work very nicely, though hardly need to turn them on with the muffs fitted.

Chris....

Dont mess about mate, buy BMW, they are the best and dead easy to fit. All the wiring/connections are already in place under your tank. All you need are the grips left and right, 2 small plastic connectors, and a right hand switch panel with the heated grip switch on. Piece of cake to fit, just thread the wires down the centre of your bars. The holes are already underneath the bars (have a look), the wires will pop out, then connect them and replace the switchgear. Bingo. Any problems, give me a shout and I'll talk you through it mate.

Regards

PS.......

There are also 2 types of BMW grips that will fit your bike, make sure you opt for the newer thinner type and dont be put off by part storeman who doesnt know there are 2 types.

If you want part numbers I can get them for you..
