Heated hand grips

For the record, I have found Pidcocks to be ok and have dealt with all my warranty issues as required. However unless BMW accept that an issue exists how is any dealer going to paid/credited for parts and labour? I have not hassled them re the heated grips on my bike as waiting to hear about the outcome on Tuesday.

I have also used Rainbow in the past and have been pleased with the service received. Dealers are the generally the 1st point of call. How they deal with the requests will determine if a customer uses them again, but with new BMW GS flying out of showrooms.....
My experience is the dealers have different avenues of communication than The consumers... If no pressure is applied to them then they won't seek answers to problems we have... My first interaction with the dealer was a shrug of the shoulders from the service writer and him handing me a sheet stating the bs with acting as designed... I kept going up the line...a great Ally was my salesperson( who makes a living by selling bikes to happy customers) she told the gen. Manager and guy in charge of warranties that it was bs that the grips didn't work and to find out why.... That started the ball rolling to a successful conclusion.

Come on guys and gals - get posting on their FB page and let's see if it helps.

I've already seen one reply, from another owner :)

This is to expand on my post 316 and confirm that grips are 2015's put on a 2014 and they work..and I know some people are seeing their dealers tomorrow and you have some backup..... :beerjug:

Finally got out on the road in "New Jersey" . The temperature was 43 degrees F and the sun was shining and roads were dry.. Purposely did not take a temp reading so just wanted to take and ride a "feel" how the grips were. Rode for a half hour about 20 miles of varied roads, red lites etc. I had lightweight gloves on ( Multi layered leather) but gloves I would use in spring.. Grips tooo hot on high and I had to turn to low.. At a longish stop light couldn't really keep my hands on the grips when on high ( no wind cooling them) ...

On paperwork below part numbers are the numbers for the 15's ie after build date of August 2014 .. The two temp readings are left and right grips AFTER the ride... I got 161 on post 316.. [email protected] contact info

Hi, Was this done under warranty, as it appears that way? Was it just the dealer's choice? Or did BMW sanction the work to be done under warranty?

Thank again for all your info.

HI, Ive read post 316. Its not 100% clear if the dealer covered the warranty costs or if BMW authorised the work and reimbursed the costs to the dealer. It makes a difference for others arguing with BMW.

Well the dealer said these words "BMW stands behind their products" the paperwork above says warranty.. I assume it was covered by corporate although didn't want to ask too many questions.. Looking a gift horse in the mouth and all that stuff...I don't know what the conversation was that went on between the dealer and BMW....

BUT none of this would of happened if the dealer/salesperson/ general manager weren't on MY side... They are the ones that swapped the grips to find out that indeed they did work... So pretty hard for corporate to come back with some bullshit story! That's the bigger point I tried to make numerous times UNTIL some dealer tries it for you and backs up you the consumer over corporate you guys are just spinning your wheels???

Also as stated before US may be different than UK

Just come back from a 2 hour ride with the outside temperature showing 3 degrees. Grips on full, could just feel a bit of heat through my gloves but did not keep my hands warm.

Just out of curiosity, switched them to half power. Well, they might as well have not been there, totally absolutely useless.

Me too. Done 4 hrs in the Borders with same temp and could just about feel some heat but not enough to keep warm.

Been complaining about my grips from day 1. Had several software updates with minimal or no difference. My bike goes in for its 2 yr 12K service next Sat. Already spoke to Service Manager about Bikerboys posts on here. I will be taking a copy of that warranty work form with me when I go.

I have spoken to my dealer and they said what happens warranty wise over in US is not relevant here. But I think it will give more ammunition.

See to me the key also is SAFETY .... after all this is what they say on their website..
http://byo.bmwmotorcycles.com/15RA#packages Click on premium , then click on heated grips!!

" As well-experienced motorcyclists know, only warm hands can react quickly. The heated grips option provides increased comfort and safety through two heating levels that regulate heat automatically with the outside temperature. This option will easily extend your riding season."

Thats what I would post on Facebook along with a letter from a lawyer to my dealer and BMW UK.... Come on one of you blokes gotta be a lawyer..????

I mean they are serving it up on a silver platter with that statement...:beerjug:
